Aaaah yes.. 56 BC.. that away game v Stonehenge. Rather bumpy pitch and weird goalposts, if I remember correctly.

Originally posted by harleygrove I remember buying monkey nuts in a paper bag and throwing the shells on the gravel path around the pitch. One time I hit a copper on the head by accident..

*cough*

Thank you for bringing this up, I too was at that game. Am I getting old or was there a bonfire lit in the middle of the terracing by our fans? I have been thinking about this for some time but as I was so young then I'm thinking maybe that didn't really happen. Can someone shed some light on it please.

I was there too.

All I remember is that Southampton kicked us off the Park and when their 2nd goal went in, all the Fedora Hat's bowed in unison like a group submission.

It p1ssed down with rain too.

Maybe its the nostalgia
But hey nostalgia is not what it used to be
I found my palace rosette the other day that I wore to Stamford Bridge when we lost to Southampton in the cup
I was 12 at the time
I had been supporting since 67
Funny reading some of the posts on here when calling a player or a manager a " legend "
But back to the OP , yes indeed supporting CPFC has been a slippery slope
But that really doesn't mean that it should always be that way
Its human nature to raise expectation
The squad now seems better than our ones in the past due to hype or inflated fees , but how much would players such as
Kenny Sansom , Swindlehurst , Taylor , Rogers , Wright etc etc be worth in todays market ?
Improvement and change is good , slowly but surely I hope it carries on .

That was the Holmesdale End mate

I can't remember it raining ?
I thought it was a clear day , nor can I remember them kicking us off the park
We were terrible that day and they weren't much better

I remember it being a terrible game

Sadly, I got incredibly drunk before the game, as I was a stupid 15 year old, and I hardly took in much of the game

What an idiot.

Not much has changed. I had too much to drink last night too

I don't know who to blame for this

Brexit perhaps

Maybe that was tears?

Peter Taylor was definitely "roughed up" during the match.

I agree that we didn't perform to our full potential though.

I remember Working for the GPO and setting up lines for game day
Malcolm Allison would leave tickets for us at the main desk.
