Sorry but we did not have control of the game at any point after we scored. I am delighted with the win but we held on when we had an excellent opportunity to manage the game as you say. Hard to manage the game without the ball.

I really hate negative posts when we've won but I've just watched that with my Dad and we were both saying the same thing.

I could not agree more for some reason we appear unable to continue to dominate after we score . Against teams that press much more we will find our "new" style of play will be much less effective than ,at times, it was today.

Jedinak missed in defence but good goalkeeping saved Palace - can't complain this result from a scratch team patches of super play if only it could be sustained.

Just got in from being at the game and unless it looked different on TV (which can happen) I was impressed with Ledley sitting in front of the back 4.

I think you make some good points but I have to disagree with your last statement. It's not childish to watch a game and then vocalise what you've seen through your eyes. I clearly have a different view than you, but I'm not trying to find an issue when we've won. I have just watched 40 minutes of football that I didn't think was of the standard we are capable of and I'm clearly not alone in that view. I am very happy we've held on and won, but certainly believe that we could have won the game without having to hold on in that manner.

And we will, once we have some results behind us. Before we scored in the 1st half we absolutely dominated the game, passing and moving into space. I'd imagine this is exactly what Pardew and the team had worked on and the way he wants us to play for 90 minutes. I admit the way we won wasn't pretty at the end but Borough were always going to throw everything at us and are a decent team but we held on for the win after months of us throwing points away.

Im all for voicing an opinion but i also think trying to blame the manager for us "struggling to hold onto the ball" when it was quite clear there was an element of us really wanting to hold onto the win so rushing play and Borough throwing everything at us is pretty short sighted.

Watching Liverpool now against Leicester just shows how 1 goal changes a game, Liverpool absolutely making a mockery of Leicester, comfortably 2-0 up and give the ball away cheaply for a leicester goal, the next 5 minutes and the game could've been level due to panic in the Liverpool ranks. Is that Klopp's fault?

"They got his own song 'He's just too good for you', it's quite unbelievable but when you see it and he's facing up someone - I actually feel sorry for them, 'Cos he actually is" - Ian Holloway

Obviously not because his name is Klopp not Pardew.

Nope, I thought Ledley did a great job too.

Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

They didn't threaten for a while but they had so much of the ball and we sat off them so much that you could see their confidence building which led to 15 minutes of watching through my fingers at the end of the game !!

Until Ramirez came on they only looked threatening from corners. They had pretty much zilch through the middle as we formed our traditional wall and only Zaha and Townsend's tired-looking legs meant they got more space down our right. Townsend and Zaha were breaking away regularly, which was always our traditional strength and with a bit more composure we could have had another one or two. We played a high-intensity game in the first hour and I don't think we could have kept that up for 90, hence sitting a bit deeper and narrowing the space by the back four pushing up. It wasn't perfect, but for a team low in confidence and with injuries you really couldn't expect more. Even the Bentenke Jnr sub (which I thought was odd) did actually add some energy up front, albeit I hope this was just due to lack of options.

Overall I would say it is unduly harsh to find fault in the performance. In most games both teams will have periods of superiority and it's just ensuring you hold firm, which we did.

And as we are constantly reminded - "2 wins (now 3) in x games..." and that pressure to get over the line with a win leads even seasoned professionals to panic a bit. Was to be expected really.

I fail to see were I have expressly blamed the manager at all. I suggested that there may be a lack of instruction or incorrect direction but I am not part of the blame Pardew contingent and certainly do not think that all our issues are his fault.

I would also like to point out that what you've said above about us dominating before scoring and then failing to do so afterwards is not just something that has happened today, but has happened for quite a while.

Your point about Liverpool doesn't really seem to make much sense, as the context is completely different. They were 2-0 down and then had 5 minutes of pushing the opposition back. From what I saw of our game today we went a goal up and then sat back...

"Brighton are talking about how they're coming for us. And it's like, we've been waiting in the Premier League for you for ages." Wilfried Zaha, 2017.
