And here is another mistake by AP, should never been sold He is and will always be a naturel goalscorer , just like Glenn Murray

Newcastle returned to the top of the Championship table as Dwight Gayle's hat-trick inspired a comfortable home win over against Birmingham City.

We made our money back and some on a player that did not fit our system. Benteke has more goals already than Gayle had in any season with us top flight. No doubt he can finish but with a team like ours you need more to your game as that just isn't enough. Newcastle have the luxury as their squad is easily the best in the division so he is free to do what he does best. Not a mistake, fair on Gayle and dceent money for us.

It was the perfect hat-trick.

A header, followed by right foot then a left foot finish.

DG and Murray have fired their respective clubs to the two top spots in the division with the help of 28 goals between them already.

However, no need to worry as Pardew prefers the Sanogo's, Bamford's, Adebayor's and Loic Remy's of this world.

Playing in a lower division. And dont say there is no difference in class. If that were true you could get promotion and not change any players to stay up let alone prosper. Anyway we need defenders not strikers.

So that's a comparison with 3 players who left the club before we sold Gayle and one proven premier league striker who so far we haven't seen due to injury.

Gayle is a good player at Championship level he was too lightweight for the top flight.

We should never have sold him as we clearly struggle to score goals...

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

We should never have sold him...?

Why? Was £10 million not a good deal for a striker who failed to show any sign of being an accomplished PL striker in 3 seasons?

He's not a particularly young striker, he didn't suit the system we've stuck by since we gained promotion and he'd have been 4th in the pecking order had all strikers been fit to start this season.

Neither Pulis, Warnock or Pardew fancied Gayle, by all accounts he didn't help himself in training with his attitude and he had 3 seasons to be a success. He wasn't and now we have Benteke and soon Remy also, both of whom are in a different league to Gayle.

Fair play to him, he's lighting up the championship as many predicted, but that's his level. Move on, he certainly has!

Everybody predicted Gayle would score at Championship level. I'm sure had we been relegated we would have kept him to get us back up and he'll probably have benefited from a season in The Championship to improve in The Prem. I''ll stick with our position over Newcastle's though if you don't mind.

Good business in my opinion and frankly just another thread to have a dig at Pardew. DOn't think we've struggled in front of goal without Gayle do you?

We have bugger all options up front. Remy and Wickham are forever injured regrettably and Campbell is just hanging around on a big contract. Gayle was always going to get goals - certainly in the championship but I think time will show that in the Prem. Barcodes play him in his right position up front and centre - because of our system we chose to play him (usually from the bench) on the left wing ! We have not replaced Gayle and predictably as a good forward he is scoring loads.

Agreed, although he still managed to be our top scorer for all the seasons he was with us.
Will be very interesting just how many he scores in the Premiership next season with Newcastle under a truly class act as Benitez

Disagree. 16 goals in a season is a good player at Championship level. 16 goals December 10 is downright phenomenal.

He's prem class...we just haven't had a decent manager to get the best out of him. (Imo of course)

He didn't fit Newcastle's system either but their manager was clever enough to change their system to play to Gayle's strengths and he seems to be reaping benefits

It's very easy when you have the best squad in an inferior league. If we had done the same I put money on Gayle banging them in for us. In the Championship. Manager after manager came here and noone could make it work for him and with good reason, unless the squad has the abilities within to change to accomodate 1 player then that player will not fit. Our squad hasn't been and isn't good enough to do that hence we've spent big money on one that does fit.
