I'd keep Delaney until the Southampton game then play Tompkins. Assuming Tompkins plays well, let Delaney be cover for Dann and Tompkins if either are injured or suspended.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

We bought Tompkins to replace the aging but always willing Damo?

Pardew should just get on with it.

The longer he leaves Tompkins on the bench the more his confidence is affected.

I'd go with Tompkins this Sunday against Stoke.

Damo is a club legend and should be on the bench ready to come on if needed.

Yes damo was at fault for last week goal, however when tomkins played against Blackpool, he was far from impressive. Other than a lack of concentration from set pieces this season. We have defended reasonably well. Also Delaney is a big voice on the pitch, a real leader.

Well said bodge, was at the Boro game and apart from their goal which was a towering header he had another sound game, all the talk about him not being good enough for the Prem is overstated.I actually thought Dann would have picked up Ayala, but even if the scorer had been tightly marked he would still have made the header, carbon copy of Bentekes goal apart from being a cross not a corner.
At present Damo deserves to keep the shirt,if in due course Tompkins takes over he should certainly be on the bench and not sold to the Championship as someone has suggested.

I'd like to see DD remain a first-choice alongside Dann.

He helped turn us around during the promotion season and has made a huge contribution to three consecutive top-flight seasons.

One of the best natural athletes at the club.

Don't write DD off yet!

That was also my Thoughts on Tomkins in the Blackpool game. Thought his positioning was suspect at times. Hopefully he will be the replacement required, but I would be concerned if he started on Sunday. The Southampton game would be ideal to blood him further into the setup. I also thought he wasn't a regular at Wetspam. Some have said he is a better full back? Another Kelly perhaps?

Love him as we do, he's been on borrowed time since last season. Never had the quality to be a decent prem CB...but can't question his commitment. His time is definitely up...but would love him to stick around the place.[/

With over 100 premier league appearances he certainly is a 'decent' CB. His time maybe drawing to an end but I wouldn't put it past him to put in some more decent performances this season.

We could ask John Toshack if he has a preference!

Agree that maybe now is the time to get Tomkins in, but to say he never had the quality - I don't think you can get through 3 complete PL seasons without any quality? What do you think?

But that's exactly what he's done - got through them. I'm not knocking him - he is what he is. And I adore him. But even his biggest fans couldn't really argue he possesses the footballing quality required for a decent prem team. Heart and passion, yes.
