Brilliant performance and great result, but early days yet.
I would be very happy with a top half finish in what AP feels is a transitional season.

Same here but it won't stop those getting carried away, same as last season. Just keep us well clear of trouble and out sh1tty runs of form we should never experience. Talk of finishing above the big clubs is naive.

An enjoyable read and a lot of well thought opinions.

Agree that Cabaye was not missed but has looked disinterested doe some time.

Listening to Tim Sherwood on Sky and he sang the praises for Bentece and made a most telling point - Bentece thrives with plenty of crosses into the box .
Ithought we tended to play too much down the middle but Mac and Townsend both scored from there.##

Agreat game to watch.

Lets put aside the fact that Stoke were awful. We looked classy at times and would have a given most teams a real test. Lets give ourselves credit. We do possess some genuine quality players now

I can't believe all this "anti-Cabaye" stuff. He carried the midfield for much of last season, especially when McArthur was injured. He therefore had little opportunity to express himself and was carrying an injury. Give him a run in this team and you will see the class player he is. I do accept that he should lose dead ball responsibilities. In my Opinion.

A great result and very good team performance, though it was against a poor Stoke side.If we can keep free from injuries to key players, then we could finish above mid table. There's a long way to go and we haven't played a "top" team yet.Hopefully things are on the up this season.

I would class Spurs as a top team; and we lost.

I don't think he was on his case. There is a whole thread devoted to the Cabaye Question and many don't agree what he said. To state it as "fact" means it is being stated as undisputed. Which it is not. This is not pedantry. It is a fair correction.

For me, we have not seen a fully match fit Cabaye since Xmas; and probably won't [touch wood] until well into next month. So those judging his worth on recent experience are being a little unfair.

He also quoted Flamini as a better alternative to Cabaye; this being the bloke who was left for dead on Sunday and could have cost us a goal.

Btw, I agree the thrust of what the OP said.

Agreed.

As for our most comfortable game, it's up there with Newcastle last season and away to Sunderland the season before.

The anti-Cabaye comments are bizarre. I think we're better off without him on set pieces but not with him out of the squad, or as one of the playing DM.

Optimistic as ever

I wasn't being funny, the statement was ridiculous. Using the word "fact" when it clearly isn't is a cardinal sin on any forum as it displays a certain level of arrogance.I wasn't aggressive in my comment I just pointed out his mistake. If I am honest I think the comment about Cabaye is utter bollox and anyone who watched the first half of last season and still feels his class will not improve the current team is quite plainly off their head.I don't however claim that its fact.

This thread is exactly what I asked people NOt to do on another thread.

We've had months of doom and gloom posters, now we replace them with the over optimistic posters.

FFS... Have you not heard the expression "One swallow does not make a summer"?

Can we not just monitor our results and not make assumptions good or bad about our chances of survival or success based on a handful of games.

Equally not big up or write off players again based on too small a sample.

As Winston Churchill said about our WWII victory at El Alemein...

"Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning".

In other words we are in a period of transition right now and it's too early to draw firm conclusions.

"One swallow does not make a summer"?

Personally I had more than one swallow while celebrating after the game. :-)

Having read so much negative anti-club sentiment for so long I think its only natural for the optimistic among us to enjoy the moment. And given a choice between optimism and pessimism the former wins hands down so despite it being "you" that asked all of us to not celebrate the two wins with bit of optimism I think it great to have some genuine positivity.
