Diane James has resigned as UKIP leader after only 18 days.

One of the reasons cited was that she was traumatised after being spat at by some "lefty thug" at Waterloo Station.

Farage has had to put up with this kind of stuff for years now - he was abused and jostled by a bunch of activists whilst trying to enjoy a sunday lunch at a pub with his family.

You never hear about any Greens, LibDem or Labour politicians being subjected to this kind of abuse... the recent murder of the Labour MP by an apparently mentally challenged person excepted of course.

However, if anyone has any other evidence of it happening post it up... otherwise it reinforces my belief that the left abuse the democratic process by intimidating political opponents to achieve their aims.

can you imagine, post vote if the 'remainers' had won and all the brexit campaigners were wanting a re-vote ? democratic this, democratic that is ALL you'd be hearing, "the decisions made, you'll just have to deal with it now" etc etc. I still cannot believe just how childish some of this has become.

Clinton is Clinton. I have known him for a long time, I know his mother... Simon Jordan

I love how you rail at the horror of spat at by an individual clearly lacking in maturity and impulse control, while casually glossing over the brutal, brutal murder of a sitting MP as if it was something completely unrelated to the hate-mongering coming from the far right.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Quite - I was thinking this, didn't some right wing nutbar murder a woman in the street and stab another guy. Being spat on seems preferable to being murdered, if it happened. Being unpopular as an MP or party leader and a subject of protests, even nasty s**t like spitting, is kind of par for the course - and not just a lefty thing.

You don't hear too much about middle of the roads liberal thuggery. They just bore you with long arguments and rational as to why a pragmatic solution, reflecting issues on the subject from both sides of the political spectrum, represent a benefical solution to the situation.

It'd be the same, do you really think that the Brexiters wouldn't be angling for a second referendum and their idiot wings going on and on and on about it.

Problem is, we think we want democracy, but probably a quarter of the population lacks the emotional or intellectual capacity to understand that means sometimes not getting your own way.
