What were the pieces of luck that went their way? The Puncheon corner going to the first man, the higher intensity of Burnley to win the ball?

Also, you can talk all about luck but it evens out. We could argue we were lucky when we beat Sunderland in last minute, equalised against Bournemouth etc. We are under performing and you can't dress it up as anything else. We've had an easy start to the season and have not achieved the points we should've.

The bad luck involved the clearance on the line for when it rebounded back off his own leg for their first goal, nothing to do with our corner and the second when the shot was half stopped and it still managed to creep in, against Bournemouth we were all over them like a rash and to not get that goal would have been terrible bad luck and against Sunderland Benteke's header was brilliant, no luck in that at all.

What bothered me most about Burnley was how often they managed to break with very little pressure applied to the player in possession. You have to know what teams are good at and have a clear plan to stop it. We didn't.

You can have all the possession in the world but if you lack key details, you're going to lose more than you win. It's the details that f*** us.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

But there are those who will offer an alternative viewpoint:
Making a hash of a clearance for the first and a goalkeeping error for the second.

I'm just aghast that having pulled it back to 2-2 we got caught on the break throwing men forward in the way we did in time added on at the end of the game.Ridiculous.

Let's say we didn't throw everyone forward versus Sunderland when we had pulled it back to 2-2 and therefore Benteke may have been picked up and had not scored. Result one point. So if we had not thrown everyone forward at Burnley you are saying that we would have a got a point. Net result two points from the two games.
Well in fact we got three points from those two games, and the added bonus of the confidence of a win at Sunderland that we took into our next match at Everton that resulted in another hard earned point!

It is no good the Manager saying we shouldn't have committed ourselves like that at the end.
Hs is there on the sidelines - he has the ability to shout and tell them what to do.
Even though the players should know better his input could have ensured we came away with a draw.

So let's be cavalier in every game ?

It's not just a question of committing players forward, it's numbers we commit to attacking positions and positions taken up by players to counter a quick break. Also the position of the free kick has to be taken into consideration.
At Sunderland we went there on the back of 2 wins so we could take a chance. At Burnley we went there on the back of 3 defeats so it was important to get something from the game.

At Burnley, how easy was it for them to break through our lines and be ahead of the midfielders very quickly and this gave them the chance to get at the covering defenders.I'm sure this will be analysed by Mr Pardew !

Over a season it is pragmatic to take a more "Safety first" approach in certain circumstances rather than refer to the "Transitional" handbook !!!!

Agreed. Quite why he felt the need to change the team by bringing on cold Ledley for Mcarthur when the players on the pitch had gained the momentum , I do not know. Noticeably it was Ledley who headed the ball back for the Burnley player to intercept and then he ran past Ledley as if he was a statue. From then on in the move, Ledley was nowhere to be seen.

I think we've solved our scoring problems but the problems are now at the other end. We need someone who can teach our defenders how to defend and that man like it or not is Big Sam

Exactly how is removing a manager going to stop our players making ridiculous silly mistakes then?

If the players were drilled properly they may not make mistakes or at least be better placed to recover them.

I wonder this quite often with Pardew, He does make strange substitutions at times. I wonder if Wickham coming on and scoring with his first touch put it in Pardews head that another change might have the same impact giving him all the plaudits for brilliant substitutions. Would not surprise me. In our last few games we have been torn apart at the back and rumour was they have been working on the defence in training. Its not working clearly. Fairplay for the fightback and they worked their socks off and deserved better but if you make mistakes in the Premier League you get punished. We did not learn from the previous breakaways that Burnley had and changed nothing to counteract it. Pardew lacks tactical nouse and managers like Pulis would have changed things within 15 minutes to stop it happening.

Beaten by mighty Burnley, just promoted from the Championship.Give me a break,we should be winning these fixtures against this sort of side, who were favourites to go straight back down, together with Hull. They are hardly the City's, Liverpool or Chelsea's,are they ??
