What do people expect of him
Well I for one , would have liked a player that now and again gets hold of a game and runs it, causing us
to win , sprinkled with a bit of game changing magic now and again that wins us games that we don't deserve to.
Look at out win rate over the last year with him in the team and it is appalling, what positive effect is he actually having ?
OK he played a bit better against Chelsea , but he was under no pressure as we were expected to lose and in the end he made no difference.
What we need from him now is to hit his top form and help us to win games like Watford and others around us who we are capable of beating , if we fight for it, and make a positive impact on the team.
I would love him to as we are in trouble and really need him to perform like a top French International player.

First point, that's not on him, Pardew or Parish. They clearly didn't buy him to play as an attacking midfielder, and when he played for PSG it was as one of the deeper two. You can't blame him for people getting the wrong end of the stick.

Second point, you say 'some interceptions' and no tackles. Last season Cabaye had the fourth highest average interceptions per game, and the seventh highest average tackles per game. That's in the whole league, not just at Palace.

Just because he's not the player some people wrongly assumed he was, it doesn't mean he's not a good player.

Is he doing to just to provoke needless arguments with people who think he is serious and bite? I seem to remember he was doing the same sort of thing when he got banned , it lead to some big argument and it backfired a bit as he lost his rag first and got banned.
I actually do not think he is a troll , but you can see why people might think he is , or comes across as one as the poster I responded to said.

Quite right. We don't come on this site to engage in debate with people that clearly don't agree with us. I am all for cerebral hygiene myself.

Such disagreeable people get the rest of us in such a lather we have to gang up to feel better.

If that's the case why does Pardew keep throwing him on in the second half?

Hoping to see him play a full game over the Christmas break. Not sure how that will go but he looked OK on Saturday.

Admittedly United and Chelsea were probably not the best games to chuck him in at. But the likes of Burnley,Swansea and Hull etc.

I really feel having two left footed players down that side will speed up the play. At the moment it's only the right we have any threat on and we've never had anything through the middle for a long time!

Because he can cross.

He tends to come on when we're behind and we want to get some extra service into the box.

To be fair, it's not the worst substitution tactic in the world if you are behind, it worked against Sunderland and he's created a couple of other chances as well.

Doesn't mean he's up to playing 90 minutes there though.

I think Jedinak did something similar.
The stats can only tell you some of the story , it's about where the tackles/ interceptions / passes are and what impact they have on the game.
Cabaye actually did make a couple of important interceptions against Man U and Chelsea , then you see him falling over behind Pogba leading to Man U goal , then against Hazard he has a little dig and again is brushed off easily , then escorts him across the pitch without getting near him or hassling once to allow him to think and pass easily to the gut who sets up Chelsea's goal.
Is it a coincidence that Pogba allegedly had his best game for Man U and Hazard had his best game for ages (Pundits) against us with him playing in midfield.
As I asked with his win record in the last year , we win more without him than with , what positive impact is he having ?
I don't think he is a bad player just a very average one , especially compared to his former self.
I see other players judged harshly who are giving their all , and he is supposed to be the 'star' who all the other players have to aspire to according to our manager, so therefore is judged accordingly.

So, by your comments I assume that you are you of the same mind that Pardew shoulders no blame in this disastrous run and it's all the players fault?

It's reasoned debate so over to you to continue it....

If pickle hadn't previously been banned I wouldn't have said what I did. I am perfectly fine to read comments supporting AP. It is so easy to have a downer on the manager for many well known reasons but history is littered with great managers who went right to the brink of failing before becoming greats of the game. More than happy to hear why our own silver fox could be next. But for me, pickle pushed it.

Really? Interesting what you chose to read into my comments there. I thought I implied the site is healthier for a mixture of views, albeit perhaps my irony was too oblique.
