He may have been gay but his style was appreciated by lots of heterosexuals in recent years. I doubt he'd ever reach those heights again but it's a sad loss to the contribution and evolution of music.

When I heard Carrie Fisher was in a critical condition after suffering a heart attack a few days ago, I feared hers would be the next in the growing list of celebrity deaths in 2016. Since then, Rick Parfitt has died and now so has George Michael.

I was never a big George Michael fan, but growing up in the '80s he was among the first celebrities I really remember emerging on the world stage so to me his presence has always felt rather constant throughout much of my life. It's a sad day for those who remember his glory days, particularly so for his many fans, on a day that should be anything but sad. Yet another one gone too soon.
