Middlesbrough allowing him to leave on loan.

We're crying out for a natural left sided winger, could do a lot worse than Downing. Would not be a very inspiring signing but he's added to his game with experience and would settle quicker than a player from Ligue 1 for example.

Would come without a transfer fee and his wages would be set or negotiated with Middlesbrough. Sam mentioned the wage cap issue so this would be an ok deal where we can also bring in others.

Cue all the predictable 'If he's not good enough for Middlesbrough'...

I'd be prepared to listen provided 'Boro don't want the whole £90k a week he's on and there's no massive transfer fee. My reservation with loans is that, with no option to buy (and anyway he'd be 33 by next season), we'd have to start again in the summer.

Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing!

Where have you seen that? I thought he was on around £30k. If he is on anywhere near £90k a week then we should have zero interest.

I think loans with no option to buy are more a problem if it's a star player like Lukaku at West Brom.

Remy could be a big player for the second half of the season, I hope we've got some sort of deal that can be made permanent if we want.

ISTR we have the option of a buy for Rémy.

He mght well prove to be a good short term option for this season, but he might not be match fit if he has dropped down the starting order at Boro

This might mean we wont bave to shell out £12 m for Brady maybe?

Brady was to play LB/LWB. I don't think Downing plays there.

A good fit then. Downing plus Brady plus Davies would really strenghten the left spine of the team

Get Downing on loan - sell Townsend for silly money - buy Brady - left side sorted.

It would seem that figure included a promotion bonus (that equated to around £30k pw) and his basic may have been closer to your figure (as he took a play cut plus bonus), but I'd have expected it to have increased when 'Boro went up.
