Well he is def lazy, he hardly runs without the ball. Even the best did that.

So he didn't run down Forster, Gomes or Fabianski? He's not a Shane Long type striker, so you're slagging him off for being Benteke. If he's as bad as many experts claim, how come he's come so far in the game? There's nothing wrong with players like Benteke and Townsend that can't be fixed by a couple of wins on the bounce and a return of confidence.

I have been following the threads on and off for a number of years but dont think I have ever posted. But as I have a theory about the team at the moment I thought I would start a thread.
When we won the championship playoff we had the following
Jules/Ward/ Damo/Wilf/Jedi/Rambo/Yala/ and others, most whom have since moved on (probably reluctantly or were past their best). All average players (comparatively speaking with EPL standards) but they all wanted to play for the “club”
Since then we have added
Macarthur/Dann /Puncheon/Ledley. Again all average players (comparatively speaking by EPL standards) But again they all seem to want to play for the “club”
Then along come the Egos
Pardew, Cabaye, Benteke, Townsend
The above 4 have upset the status quo at the club, and looking at the body language of the “average players”, the remaining 3 seem to only be playing for themselves and the money.
OK Pardew has gone but the other 3 are still here and seem to have dragged the others down since they arrived.
PSG didn’t want Cabaye, why? All about Cabaye
Liverpool couldn’t wait to get shot of Benteke. Why? All about Benteke
Newcastle couldn’t wait to get rid of Townsend and take on Gayle. Why? All about Townsend
They all have big egos and can’t produce the goods unless it is all about them, so get rid.
Even Wilf who has had a chance at the big time came back and plays for the shirt (most of the time anyway)
If we can bring in players who want to play for the club and get rid of the egos we will survive.
Look at the likes of Bournemouth, Southampton, Borough, no noticable egos but they seem to keep going. They all appear to have average players but little in the way of Egos

You know all this about these players because?
Gayle was rumoured to be a t***, so should we have kept him?
Sam has no ego I assume?
Neither do the players you like I assume.
Truth is everyone at the club has an ego. You don't get to the top of any tree, player, coach, physio, etc if you lack confidence. So obviously you'd prefer us to be a club full of individuals that have severe doubts about their competence and abilities and we'll rocket up the league?

Egos are always going to be there. I think Wilf and Punch probably have the biggest egos from what I can tell on the telly (never seen Punch play at SP). However, I imagine that disparity in wages are the biggest issues when average players (as they have turned out to be) turn up and command silly money only to deliver no end product. That would irk me if I was Damo or Macca working my socks off only to go home for beans on toast when Cabaye is not putting in a shift but dining out foie gras.

Credence Clearwater Revival had a song for those that weren't firing anymore called Lodi. "The man from the magazine said I was on my way, but somewhere I lost connection, ran out of songs (balls) to play." Fitting methinks for Andros and possibly Big Ben.

Everyone who has worked with Benteke says he is a hard working and honest pro who doesnt like to upset the apple cart and hardly ever makes a fuss. He never misbehaved at Liverpool or Villa just because he is better than the rest of our players bar Wilf I think it's out of order to assume he is a knob.

I do think this is spot on ... where has all the Benteke hate come from of late?
He has struggled to get meaningful service in recent weeks but those suggesting he should be running around like a headless chicken to show he "cares" are off the mark.
A quality player, who will hopefully be a large contributor to our relegation fight.

They have Id, and superegos too.

Thing is, the problem we've been having isn't with the midfield or attack, its in the defence. Granted Townsend is inconsistent, but Beneteke has now scored more goals in a premiership season than anyone in the last three.

Thing to remember is that when you pay 12m-18m in this league you tend to be buying average to half decent premiership players.

Err, no. The 'best' no 9's don't run around a lot for the sake of it. They move around enough to either gain some space or drag defenders about to leave gaps. In the right place with the right ball they'll do the running they need to. Llorente was a model for this for Swansea t'other week.

Benteke needs better support/service - if he had players running beyond him we'd see the best of his game.

Campbell does nothing but run around half the time - I know who I'd rather have in my team.

I don't really know what people go on about Benteke having an ego or not committed, he comes off very well here: [Link]

His game is all about positioning to get himself in the best goal scoring opportunities. His game is a lot different from Wickham or Carroll, he's not a bulldozer, he can't bully defender quite the same as Lukaku or Costa but he does have that poaching ability that is not bettered by many in this league; Costa, Kane, Aguero, Ibrahimovic and maybe Defoe. I think he can improve his game on the floor and showing a bit more spirit but he is still worthy of his place.

I see the point that the OP is making but I don't think it's about egos, more a culture clash where the old Championship core knew each other's games backwards (ie Zaha-Murray-Bolasie) and were very much equals, they played for each other. In trying to improve the club guys get brought in who don't know each other, which shows in the way the team plays however hard the individuals are trying.
Parish has a very hard job because managing the transition from old team to new is proving very tough for this reason plus he's from a solid business background and the money being thrown around the Prem is unreal which makes him cautious and rightly so.

You've totally made up the reasons for the mentioned players being sold by their clubs just to make it fit in with your nonsense thread.Feckin ridiculous.
