But where is this mysterious Allardyce factor?

He has had time to sprinkle at least some fairy dust but all I see by way of difference is that we have adopted a tactic which appears to involve not scoring.

I think our problem now sits with another chairman who however well intentioned finds himself finally out of his depth and discovering that running a premier league club defies the normal rules of business.

With the disastrous run we had been under (Some form in 2016!) it is a bit much to suggest he could just wave a 'Magic wand' and 'Hey Presto' all would improve quite quickly!

It should be noted that he took over a negative situation at Sunderland but it was a 'Slow burner' and they lost 8 out of their first 11 games under him.It was only in the last couple of months that they started to get going. But he took over Sunderland in October whereas he came to us in December with hardly any time to assess the players before the 'Transfer Window'.

We’ve been promoted to the top flight seven times. The longest we’ve stayed up has been four seasons: 1969-73 and 1989-93. This is our longest stay in the Premier League, but it’s also our fourth season again. History repeating itself?

In 1969-73 we did very well to stay up, thanks to Bert Head, but we were never able to consolidate at that level. In 1989-93 we had a much better chance to establish ourselves, but shot ourselves in the foot and I feel it’s the same this season.

I’m not saying we are down yet, especially purely as a result of yesterday, but I think it’s going to be a real battle now to survive. We have a slim chance, but if we don’t gain at least 8 points from the next 5 fixtures, then I think we are down. We have already picked up 7 fewer points this season than we had from the corresponding fixtures last season – and then we finished just 5 points above the relegated sides.

Still trying to be optimistic.

Dud you actually watch the game yesterday, we're you there. There was plenty of fight there yestetday, thd players were well up for it. Play like that against bournemouth Sunderland etc and we'll pick up points.

Yesterday's defeat all but resigned us to the championship. All of the players will then leave and league 1 will follow soon after. It's been great but the party is finally over.

Blimey you give in easily and raise the white flag! Lets hope the Club, management and players continue to show a more backbone, guts and doggedness and continue to fight on with the next 16 matches.
Yesterday was certainly a vast improvement on the Swansea effort.

This ain't over until Palace have played all 38 fixtures!

If we lose our next 2 games against Bournemouth and sunderland we will go down its pathetic we find ourselves in this position we have a top 10 squad not a bottom 3 squad if we go down we won't come back up again that's for sure

We may go down but I don't think we will continue into the 3rd division. If we do go down and it gets rid of "fans" like you then it's quite tempting.

Yesterday we played well in periods and BFS playing with two wing-backs looked good and Big Ben looked up for it playing with Remy. I don't think we deserved a win but thought we were worth a point.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I think that we will go down this season, teams that get relegated find ways to lose a game and that's what we are doing. Seen it all before in he 70s 80s and 90s. The big question will be how we regroup.

The current squad is talented but not motivated. If they want to stay up they need to get their motivation up considerably, how about telling them all "if we go down you've got to stay and play in the championship ". Might give them the kick up the bum they need.

Good post Willo , but the Sam hater's just hate Sam and it's all down to his month in charge.
Sadly they seem to prefer Palace to fail under Sam so they can hate him even more.
2016 never happened in their eyes, they don't understand it was a whole year of failure and if Pardew could have have fixed it he would have done , but sadly for us he just couldn't and showed no signs of doing so .

Remember when Bruce tipped up at our place, didn't start well in terms of gaining points but you could see that results were to follow and they did. Yesterday's game gave me much the same belief. Few new additions, and wilf to add to the equation we'll pick up wins very soon.

We played some of the best football I'd seen in a long time at Palace under Bruce.
Shame he turned out to be a scumbag.
Mind you, his boss can't have been the easiest to get along with.

There's still plenty to play for.

But I do fear the worst.

We have more genuine talent and quality than the teams around us, but it's not properly balanced.

That's started to be addressed by signing Shlupp, but I still think we need a physical presence in midfield to shield the back four and an upgrade on Damo.
