In just 1 year. Worrying. What's the answer? How about 5% of stamp duty goes into a government scheme?

I'm not sure what the answer is tbh, a re-distribution of wealth is the obvious choice (but as we see, that'll never happen).
Statistics such as this show the true reality of where our economy stands today and sadly i believe that it's only going to get worse.

The trouble is, no one really knows why people are homeless.

Mental issues, runaways, alcoholics, people who have lost everything, immigrants etc. They all play a part and I am sure that there are others too. Because of that there is no one solution, certainly not one that is palatable to most people.

Personally I would take them off the streets and put them in some of the unused army camps. A six-twelve month programme where they have medical care, eat properly, learn life skills, physical training, and some form of education

Get paid say £100 a week of which they get £20 a week. the rest is saved for when they leave. Obviously need finessing but as a basic principal I think it could work

the dignified don't even enter in the game

A lot of councils seem to have been cutting funding for homelessness and outsourcing their responsibility for homelessness to highest bid charities. The reality of this approach has been that local all or local hostels have closed down and that people have to go to rather extreme hoops just to be classed as homeless, which means the council can avoid the cost of housing them or support facilities.

Homelessness rises as austerity bites. I wonder if there is a connection. I guess someone has to pay the price for the banking crisis

It's just criminal that it's never the bankers.

Out of interest does anybody know the ratio of the UK's expenditure on UK homelessness vs foreign aid expenditure? I don't know the answer, it's not a leading question.

One of the chaps who was quite a "colourful" character on the streets of Brighton a couple of years ago, and has since passed away, had tattoos to suggest he was ex-military. I've been told that people often leave the army and have nowhere to go and little grasp of how to integrate back into normal society. That's in relation to your first paragraph by the way. I have been told (although have no evidence) that this accounts for quite a few homeless people in this country.

Just to clear things up.

Homelessness has NOTHING to do with rampant immigration and the potential ensuing severe lack of houses that policy might bring.

Anyone even thinking that is RACIST!

Are you suggesting that we ought to give housing priority to British people who are perhaps war veterans, addicts, mentally ill etc over people that have travelled through several potential safe havens to reach Britain? That does sound pretty racist mate, it sounds like you are advocating an attempt to distribute British tax payers money to British people in crisis at the detriment of high priority issues like diversity and something more commercially palatable. Shame on you, maniac.
