Having previously deluded myself with a refusal to truly believe we could go down, Saturday's abject display has hammered home the brutal reality of our situation. With too much time on my hands at work, I wrote down the current league positions of our remaining opponents and did the same for our five relegation rivals. Screenshot attached. The aim of this was to try and work out exactly how much of a mountain we have to climb. Below are the averages of these lists just to summarise exactly how hard we have it compared to the other teams. Obviously the lower the number, the harder the fixture list. Middlesbrough: 10.7 Our next two fixtures are against Stoke and Middlesbrough, winnable games and a hypothetically easier pair of fixtures than any other team on that list has. If you take the same average but starting after the next two rounds of fixtures, the task ahead looks even grimmer; Middlesbrough: 10.3 (0.4 league positions harder) My point is that I believe these next two games will make or break our season. I realise there are other variables at play but if we don't take 4 points then, for me, the task will just be too hard.

I totally agree with you, a win is the only option this weekend. We need to be out of the bottom 3 and make sure we better those under us, breaking away. Also, this weekend you have Lei v Swansea - if they draw we leap frog them both. Hull v Arsenal, Boro v Everton and sunderland v Southampton. So, similar to what you stated, we have the easier of the opponents - in theory. If those teams all drew, and we win, we would be 15th. I've resigned to the fact we will be relegated, anything other than that will be a bonus, it's a shame as we had a fantastic opportunity, but honestly, i don't like what the premier league has done to the club, albeit through the chairman. We should have always been the under dogs, punching above our weight - if we go on great league runs, it's a bonus but our aim each year should be smashing 40 points as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Anyone that has supported palace a decent amount of time will agree with me.

Have been a supporter since 1969 and have seen the good and the bad times of which there have been plenty. I am afraid I can't agree with you, why should we always be the underdogs? Why can't we be amid table team with a chance of winning one of the elusive cups.

This is what makes me so angry about that man gambling with our points and effectively our future. The 1st half of the season had us play tougher matches at home and a lot of easier matches away. After that 3 win run vs the dross and then the Everton draw came the expected few losses. But then the gambling and chucking away of points at Burnley, Hull, Swansea. Now it's going to be a reversal of fixtures and us with a real battle. If we didn't make the recent signings we'd be stuffed. But we have so we have a chance. I'm just so angry that if we get relegated we've, erm he, done it to ourselves. We've relegated ourselves. What a great memory if we don't come back up for years.

This may seem perverse but the performances are going to be more important than the points. No good getting 4 but still looking fragile and having that going into the last twelve games. We will go down then no matter what. Better we show strength, focus and desire. Should get a point or three then anyway from the two. But 'yes' the next two games are everything one way or another.

We need to have more than 1 new player playing and unfortunately needed that earlier in January. But the possible lineups look good as long as Ledley and Puncheon aren't playing.

Agree - we need to see a real good performance at Stoke. Players showing desire and determination. Win, loose, or draw its the manner that will count as much as any point(s).

I started another thread at the beginning of January stating how important it was that we conducted some business early and though the signings we did eventually make were decent, they were really late again. Winnable games have already passed us by and more are going to before they get match fit / used to the system etc. Obviously the chairman and manager will say January is a difficult transfer window and players cost more money, but ultimately if we go down the amount we'll lose will be far more substantial than the hit we would have taken to get those players in quickly.

Maybe just maybe the fact that the team has had their "holiday" in Dubai cancelled and a bollocking from both manager and chairman plus being told that if we go down they lose 50% of their wages next season. If that does not spur them into turning themselves back into a winning team I do not know what will.
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

An under dog in the terms of an unattractive, not so glamerous club, going unnoticed in the premiership until a cup run sparks the media. Grotty Croydon, older stadium, passion and grit over flair and cosmopolitan style. Less executive boxes and packages, more safe standing and local fans. The past year they have sold the soul of CPFC, brandishing us as an attractive afternoon, corporate seats, light displays 'come experience south london'. Mid table clubs are deemed boring, so they need that something to identify them - stoke, aggressive. West ham, long ball, s*** fans. Everton, good youth. Southampton, great youth and scouting network. Palace can be that mid table team that goes far in cups based on passion - that's the perception I want ppl to think. Then as we further our time here, people slowly realise 'palace - good youth set up, great fans, locally owned' and respect comes. But in our 3rd season to start talk of Europe.. look where it has got us.

Sometimes it's just not possible to get your targets "Over the line" as soon as one would like I can assure you.Can be lots of protracted negotiations, complications, disappointments etc etc which of course is very frustrating for the club. Problem we have is that 1 new player got injured, 1 is awaiting a work permit, another one is not match fit so basically the new players haven't had the opportunity to "Hit the ground running" which we so badly need. Allardyce thinks that in the main the ones that have been at the club for a while have sufficient quality but they are lacking confidence for obvious reasons and playing with a great deal of fear at 'Home'.To get them to rectify this situation is another matter ! We thought the deserved win at Bournemouth might act as a 'Springboard' but my goodness it was followed by that debacle on Saturday. Edited by Willo (08 Feb 2017 6.34pm)
