Just goes to show, all you have to do is ask.

Can i just make the point that the Scots, Irish and Welsh regularly tear into we English with all kinds of smears and dragging up of alleged historical misdemeanors and we have to take it on the chin. We even give them a hard time occasionally, not to mention the French as well and it all seems to be fair game.
Why then do we get all excited when someone slights our Eastern European cousins? Do they have some sort of elevated status that I don't know about?

Steps outside the realm of usual rivalries. Whilst there is a long tradition of the French, Welsh, British, Irish and Scots giving it to one another, and taking a bit of banter in return, there isn't that tradition with other nations. Especially when the categorisation is Eastern European.

So what?

There is the traditional thing but I could include
the Germans,Americans,Belgians, even the Italians and Spanish to a degree.
No, it seems that we can slag lots of people off but certain nationalities are exempt.
I am of the mind that any insult should be met with an equally rude response or indifference or laughter.
I don't think I like too much protesting.

It seems this is a whoosh.

It's pretty simple. If you select words in order to tease - and within that tease there is largely affection - they are unlikely to cause offence. If you select words that may appear harmless but the intent is to wound - and your recipient understands that is your intent - you are being vicious. Responses will mirror the perceived intent.

Well done mate, keep it that way. Do you know that women aren't allowed to show their necks in Maidenhead. They are forced to wear something called a Jaeger scarf.

I get that but I'm not sure it stands up to modern day liberal puritanism. What you can say is definitely related to the subject and that panders to small mindedness and victim mentality in my humble opinion.
Words have no power against the powerful.

I was in a pub in Maidenhead that got evacuated once.

Someone left an unattended scarf on the floor. People thought it was a Jaeger bomb.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

I had a similar discussion with my daughter about bullying triggered by a thread on HOL. Oral rather than physical bullying is really all about how you take it, if you are able to ignore it then it has no power. Very few people are strong enough to do that, everyone needs some reinforcement of their self esteem.
