We only get the posh papers here in Purley but The Sunday Times player ratings for yesterday's game and the additional comments made for fascinating reading this morning :

6 - Hennessey, Ward & Benteke
7 - Van Aanholt, Milvojevic & Puncheon
8 - Tomkins, Sakho, Townsend & Cabaye
9 - Zaha

These are the best player ratings I have seen for many months.

In addition the paper pointed out :

Cabaye has made assists in consecutive games for the first time since April 2012. This come after 47 Premier League games without an assist.
Zaha has been directly involved in more goals this campaign than his past three league seasons combined (five goals and six assists).

For me it is the Cabaye figures that really damn the previous regime. We weren't getting the best out of Cabaye under the free flowing football of Pardew. Its been pragmatic Sam who has been able to do that.

agree on the basis of a few games. yesterday was the best game I've seen cabaye play for us.

however. I gotta seem him do that at least half a dozen more times this season to say Sam has worked out best how to use him.

for all we know..it may have all been down to parishes rollickin and will return to normality soon

For some unknown reason AP seemed to think Cabaye could function as a defensive midfield player. No wonder we're seeing benefits now he's playing in his natural position.

The fact we had no recognised defensive midfielder in the squad let alone in the first XI is unforgivable, Flamini barely counted as he was never brought in to feature much and he'd barely played for 2 seasons previous. Milivojevic has freed up Puncheon and Cabaye to push up with and without the ball.

There was a pass against Everton to Remy.

One in the first half last week to Wilf.

The assist today.

Three examples of what Cabaye has that no other player in the squad does. The weight of his passing is just sublime at times.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Milivojevic only a 7? Whenever West Brom tried to come forward through the midlle he appeared like the shopkeeper in Mr Benn, went "I'll have thst thank you", took the ball off them and sent it up to Cabaye or Puncheon or Zaha or Townsend. Often those players didn't quite connect but basically Milivojevic saw to it the West Brom created f*** all.

Although I also live in Purley I think the Sunday Times has not got its ratings right on this one.

I have to agree with Chateauferret Luka Milivojevic did see to it that WBA created f*"K all 8 or 9 for me all day!

Also Sakho should be a 9 with Wilf. He might not run the most km out of the whole team but he knows about positioning and where to be at the right moments.

What interest's me is what it had to say about Townsend's goal. I see it started further back in play than the Giggs' goal v Arsenal in 1999.

I saw on MOTD they didn't talk about it that long. Perhaps he needed to take his shirt off to get the recognition he deserved for it!?

MoTD really didn't cover our defensive performance at all, anyone would have thought Milivojevic and Sakho had quite ordinary games.

The highlights on Sky are much better, really highlighting on Sakho. Shame that you couldn't hear the Pulis chant at the end though
