Goes on all the time. Turned away myself from loads of properties due to having children. Told by one agent it was tantamount to cruelty to have my children (who are the same gender) share a bedroom. Asked by another if I intended having further children.. most people being honest would be picky about who the allow into their property especially if they had bad experiences with a particular group of tenants. He won't be alone in what he's doing

Can bet your eye teeth as well he's the type of landlord who just wants to rake in the rental income every month and probably does f*** all to keep the properties decent or maintain them in anyway shape or form.

One agency near me most of their ads read, no sstudents, no sharers , no smokers, no children, no dss. All wrapped up nicely under the guise their lettings insurance doesn't cover any of those groups of people. In other words they want tenants who are a couple out at work all day (so less wear and tear on the fixtures and fittings of the property)

This man does not have a good reputation in Kent so I'm told but ultimately you can rent your properties to who you want. Just don't put it in print.
