To be honest I'm more gutted about the growing injury list than the defeat. Would a point tonight have made THAT much difference to the optimistic or pessimistic comment?

I doubt it. Bottom line: we need to beat Burnley and Hull and ideally Leicester too. All possible.

Not sure if this meant you were disagreeing with me !
With our injury woes and inadeqate strength in depth I am now convinced that we will go down. Very sad indeed.

At least it's in our hands. 7 or 9 points from Leicester, Burnley and Hull at selhurst and we'll be okay

I Am very concerned. I think hull will stay up, they have momentum, confidence and obviously a very good manager. It's between us Swansea and West Ham... we have the hardest run in... we are in trouble... big f@ckin trouble but it's good to see the players with fight.. we will need every ounce of it

Wiill need supporters too ...stop pant wetting and man up.

One loss does not a season make. The assumption seems to be that we should have beaten Southampton at their place. I don't buy into that. The crucial games for us are definitely Burnley, Leicester and Hull at home. Win those and we are safe. Even if we win two out of three we'd still have 37 points and that may be enough. I'm optimistic that we can also take points from Liverpool and Arsenal so all is not doom and gloom.

Bad result tonight but we are actually in a better position than before tonights matches. Swansea are still 3 points behind us with a worse goal difference and have played a game more and there's one less game to go so no need to panic. I'd be more worried if I was a West Ham fan.

Surely you feel more confident than, say, after Sunderland? You can't do it on a game-by-game basis. Our form is still terrific which, although doesn't mean we will stay up on its own, surely is cause for SOME optimism?

It's not quite doom and gloom yet. REALISTIACLLY we are 2 points up (nobody expected a win at the weekend and a point at St. Mary's would have been a good result imo). Had we lost at the weekend and picked up all the injuries that we have, then I may have edged towards the 'we're going down' camp (I'll be honest, before the change around in performances up to the 'boro game, I had us nailed on). The fact of the matter is that tonight's Swansea loss did us a huge favour (one good turn deserves another) and we still have 3 points (and the virtue of a much superior GD) in our favour. I've always thought that it was going to go down to the Hull game on the 13th. Despite the run in, it's still in our hands.

Nothing has changed.

Honestly this position should really have been expected. Hull have been on this form for a long time and I can see them getting to 37 points or beyond by the end of the season.

Personally I believe we will stay up and that we will get points in the next few weeks but I worry about the effect on the players and on many of us fans, should we not gain any points in the next 4 matches. It is a very real possibility if not a probability.

What I am really hoping for is for the fitness of our team to improve, for the sternness and resolve that has seen us win 4-in-a-row will return and the frustration and lack of composure we saw again for the last 30 minutes today to be recognised and planned against.

It's going to be close, so it's going to need everyone to have faith and continue to support the team each match day.

Sunderland was a real 'Nadir' but I did feel there was still time to turn around our fortunes. Situations do change game-by-game so it is understandable that ones viewpoint can change as well. Given our injury woes, remaining fixtures and those of our rivals I feel we will fall short. I am deeply saddened.
