Seriously people need to chill out. I don't have a problem with gays or anyone but when people make a big deal out of nothing it does my head in!

Bit of banter and a laugh ffs. No need to get offended at all.

One of many ways in which the ancient Greeks and Romans had the right idea. Some gods were men and some were women. Some were straight and some swung both ways. There were gods for everyone. And if anyone started calling Zeus "she", they'd get a lightening bolt to the skull in short order.

Not everyone who did the monkey chants was racist back in the day. I know a few ome time racists who are fine upstanding middle class citizens who'd be horrified at their former selves.

What you mean is 'they were racist: indulged in racism' - you can't do monkey chants any other way - but now they are not/don't.

Like our very own Kevin Day.

Well to be fair and strictly honest I know some who exhibited racist behaviours but not actually monkey chants. So I'm just guessing a bit that some people got into the herd mentality doimg such chants but weren't/ are no longer racist. So those pals of mine who were racist back in the day are not now. Their lives have shown them things to make them change their beliefs.

My point is that some people aren't homophobes but they validate the behaviours of some who are by saying it's all good to join in.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I said 'i've' not 'it's been around since...'

Brighton and the pink pound became a thing in the 80's so the chanting probably began in that decade.

The other wind-up songs well before then.

Pretty sure there were some 'gay' chants ref Alan Mullery and Peter Ward in the late 70s.

One more thing. Racist behaviour doesn't make you racist. Being a convicted racist wouldn't make you racist. What is in your heart is what makes you racist. That is my belief.
