So Jamie Redknapp thinks this was easy. What season was he watching?

His remarks are those of a bl**dy fool who tries to reduce everything to a single simple issue to make out that he alone can see a straightforward truth that everyone else is too stupid to discern. His statement is bollocks. On MoTD Sam himself said that this was about the hardest survival job because of the fixtures in the run in and it had been important to get results against teams like Arsenal. A diplomatic answer. He did not mention that he had inherited a squad which, for all its on-paper talent, had been totally f***ed up by the previous incumbent; which was the real reason IMHO that it was such a challenge. It was also not pointed out that a number of the other teams around us just after Christmas made major changes and as a result began to pick up points as well. Swansea, Hull and Leicester went on runs at various points which meant that our own spell including wins over Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal didn't lift us to mid-table as it might have done. Finally, just as we were about to get over the line, our physio room started filling up with centre-backs and the results which arose from that needed confidence and discipline to be rebuilt again for the home match against Hull. The result of that match proves his mettle. Football management is obviously too complicated for Redknapp. Edited by chateauferret (15 May 2017 12.55am)

We had an ice hockey coach over here who used to say, "You're not talented enough to win on talent alone." I think prior management and the players forgot that. English football especially requires a lot of hard work to grind out results. I remember many posting here immediately after the last three or four transfer windows saying the squad had more depth than ever before. Maybe it was but then you have to look at your competition and you see how much depth they have. In truth, talent is really a paper value that can't be verified until you see the performances on the pitch. Also, how many relegation scraps has Redknapp been in. Not too many, I reckon. To me, he represents a class of punditry, whether it sports, politics or whatever, that talk just to hear the sound of their voice and to be needlessly "controversial." Jimmy Hill was that way as well at times. He even defined himself as a "controversialist." That kind of analysis may generate heat but very little light.

He's listed the front 4 and he's right to list them as quality. Cabaye, Wilf, Andros and Benteke are top 10 qualify. It's the defence that's kept crippling us and def mid before Sam brought in Luka, and, as mentioned above, the Pardew effect. Parish hanging on too long before sacking Pardew. Your dad's bent and you're a div. Chateauferret, you speak sense and it's a perfect response to his drivel. Can it be posted against his shyte?

The guy just shows he really doesn't have a clue. We were dead after Sunderland and the work that went in from there from the management team was absolutely brilliant.

In fairness to the guy (and I know I'm going to get my head chewed off here) he did say it was Sam's easiest relegation fight in the context of having the best squad he's ever had for such a fight.

All he was saying is that Allardyce inherited a decent squad the best he had for a relegation battle when one considers the quality of the likes of Benteke, Zaha etc. Think this was the message he was putting across and it has been interpreted differently.

I tend to agree with his comments. Yes we had some great wins recently but we also lost at home to Sunderland, Swansea and Burnley and got thumped by an out of form West Ham. I personally didn't see relegation as a reality when he took over yet it nearly happened. Allardyce has performed probably about equal to what we would have expected and keeping Palace up this year is easier than his previous survival acts and certainly can't be compaired with what Pulis achieved with us.

Sam made a massive difference, and whoever brought Sako in (Parish?). Shlupp and Patrick shored up the left back position so were good signings Luka shored up the middle of the park and has allowed Cabaye to flourish. and Sako made us believe, by making the team more calm and focussed. It's been a marvellous ride since Sunderland. My personal highlights were the 3-0 win against Arsenal - I loved the OLE!'s Here's to more fun next season. Glad all over! Whilst the wins against the big 3 were fantastic the above defeats were a joke. We made it harder for ourselves than was necessary, and whilst BFS deserves some credit it's not the same as the Pulis miracle.

Pulis didn't have to start by having to teach the players how to play football again from first principles. He also undid all his good work by f***ing off two days before the start of the season and leaving us in the lurch. Thank f*** he hasn't got the opportunity to send us to the Championship by not turning up next week.
