I would go for him. Remember £30 mill in the Premierleague isn't a lot anymore, and the only way we're ever gonna turn into a top 10, or even top 7/8 team is by spending big (or having a freakishly good recruitment system a la Southampton).

I cannot believe that we would pay 30million and enormous wages for Sakho as good as he is. He served his purpose for us and was instrumental in earning the points we needed. There will be players out there that can fill the centre half position at much lower cost and enable us to sign other players to build a better squad.
My view at that price thanks but no thanks.

He's the best cb I've seen in a Palace shirt in the last 20 years of watching Palace. Without him we'd be where hull are. We not poor old Palace anymore. As Sam has stated that he only wants players that are better than what we got. Is L.kone better than dann, Tomkins or Kelly. I would say no. How are we supposed to move to the next level buying 3x10 million players. We know how good Sakho is.

Its an excellent argument. Kone is clearly not better than Sakho but we still need a left back, so Kone & Jenkinson is better than Sakho in the greater scheme of things. So its down to available budget and working out what gives us the best value for the positions we need to fill. Kone is better than Damo.

Trouble is not knowing who's out the door.

If we keep exactly the same squad then really we need a central defender, right back and goal scoring midfielder.

If we sacrificed the midfielder to sign Sakho and then got Jenkinson for something cheap like £5 million, it might just about be worth it.

However, it's likely Delaney is going to go, as is Cabaye and potentially Wilf. If that happens, we need a right back, TWO centre backs, winger, playmaking midfielder and goal scoring midfielder.

In that situation I see Sam spreading his money rather than putting it all on Sakho.

In an ideal world we go out and get Pickford, Jenkinson, Sakho, Sigursson, Ake, Defoe and add them to Wilf/Townsend/Benteke/Cabaye.

But we aren't Chelsea or City, it won't happen.

Delaney signed a new one yr deal according to Dom fifield report. Also mcarthur could be sacrificed for other acquisitions.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned the g1mps down the M23 being interested in MacArthur. No thread on it?

They don't have the money to take players clubs don't want to sell who are under contract. '£15 mil and we'll talk' should be the answer.

The answer is buy him. One season is worth £100-£200m apparently.
I doubt if he will plummet in value and if he keeps us up a couple of seasons job done.
I think most people recognise he is one of the best players we have had at the club for a very long time and he fell into our laps.

This is key, and let's be honest, none of us know how much we have to spend. We could have anything between £10m to £100m, to spend, maybe more.

It's certainly true that if they've stupidly decided they don't need money to acquire the players they'll need then they won't be coming in for McArthur. I don't see the need to sell him to replace with like, if his current form/fitness matters are likely to be resolved over the summer. And he isn't surplus to requirements.

Of course the player may decide that he wants to leave but if that is the case why would he go to Seaweed of all places? The only certainty about that would be championship football in 2018/9. Surely he would get better offers than that.
