39th Game? Opinions?

There is huge untapped potential interest in European soccer in the USA. Alot of people who dont know alot about football, talk about the Premier league. As soon as they realise i am English, first question is about soccer, am not kidding when i say this happens alot. The first major European league to start playing a few games there will tap into this huge treasure chest. They have a friendly between Real Madrid and Barcelona in Miami next week, the ticket prices were insane, been 10+ million in ticket sales. The Man Utd games are near sold out, as are the Chelsea, and these are just friendlies. I personally know several people who used to be NFL mad, but barely watch games anymore as they have lost interest. NFL viewership is down significantly in the last 2 years. These guys now go to the pub every saturday to watch an EPL game. Never thought i would say it, but the US is ready to explode on English soccer.

The NFL does it a lot. You get a handful of games in London, the Texans played in Mexico City last year and there are games elsewhere too. Where I object to this - and it would be the same in the EPL whether it was a 38th or 39th game (the latter having all the mismatch problems discussed above) - is that half the teams are losing a home game. It's one thing to play the top 6 - or a heated rival - but to do it at home gives you the home fans at your back. Take it to...where? China? Australia? Qatar? And you've lost the benefit of a known field and a majority crowd. And how do you handle the travel differences such that a pair of teams may play in Japan and their opponents for the next game back in Blighty only had to go to Norway. It's a really, really stupid idea. Expect it in the 2018/19 season. We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

I am completely against it. The more clubs become foreign owned then the more likely it is too happen. Is it time to fire a warning shot across the bows of the powers that be that enough is enough? Organise a complete boycott of the premier league for a whole weekend, tv as well as attending a fixture. Without the fans inside the stadiums they would soon see that the product would not get so much ££ from the tv companies etc etc. Go watch a local game that weekend, grass roots gets a benefit & the owners etc get a large wake up call.
