Like FDB but worried that we still do not have the right players to support his plans. If (big if) we can get some players in then the new system might have a chance.

If new system doesn't work it will be interesting to see if FDB can change the formation to a more successful one ala Conte.

This is a forum for discussion, where all are entitled to express their views and, because they may differ from your own, doesn't make them "BS". Expressing a reasonable concern does not equate to a lack of support. As a matter of interest, exactly how do you plan to "get behind FdB and the boys" from Hungary?

I think that's enough sitting on the fence. Say what you mean for goodness sake.

3 at the back and the fact FDB has never managed in the league really worries me. It could be brilliant but I suspect it'll be a really tough start and then we'll be chasing it again.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

Huge gamble by Steve Parish & FdB. 3-4-3 is a great system when you expect to be the dominant team and you have front players that frighten opposing teams.

Lucky we have Wilf Benteke and Townsend then.

I will bite: I am worried! Way too much emphasis on a new system, which is even a system he has never before used nor played in just a copy of what Chelsea did last season. Also slightly worried about the expectation level as we have a decent starting team but reality is that there is very little back up.

I like him as a person but have had my doubts when he was at Ajax even though he made them Champions 3 times in a row. He also may well have the van Gaal trade of "knowing it all" , though if results went wrong he would not keep that up.
I am also not in the frame of mind of "he needs time", he needs results then tweak a new system at whatever speed is possible but not at cost of results. You make your own time, you do not get it granted.

I am positive on one thing and that is that he will try his utmost to bring some youngsters from the academy through and will be for English standards very daring in doing so as he is used to a culture where 17/18 is a kid and one is considered mature at 23/24.

Don't really understand why people aren't impressed.

The youth he's giving game time don't look lost, which means it's the right call. So their stock is rising. #check

No one ever thought they'd be this ready. #check

Playing more of a passing game. #check

EVERYONE was at pains that we only had one system. #check

FdB spends pre session learning a new system. #check

We look more comfortable on the ball then we ever have. #check

Talk from the dressing room is that everyone is embracing his ideas. #check

First loan signing looks quality #check

First actual signing (for only £8m) looks quality first team starter #check

Sounds like we're very much looking to sign other ball playing players #check

Hold our own in our pre season games. #check

Don't look lost in the new system the coach has coached #check

HOLs lining up with blame should manager fail. #check

Great post. The thing that concerns me most is that I can see a number of fans getting on his back if we don't start winning early. It may take a while to fully adjust to a new system. Took sam a while to get his system working. We need to be patient, whatever happens in the first few games.

When Marinho came into the league he had worked out British defenders are not built to keep the ball, dribble effectively or pass imaginatively. Players like Moore and Southall come once a generation and the usual defender will make mistakes when pressured. So The Chosen One bought clever defenders and filled the opposition half with clever forwards. He played the game in the opponents half.
All we need to ask is do Palace yet have defenders who .can do that? last season Palace just couldn't hold the ball at the back, but the forwards were very effective IF they could get the ball. Only when Sakho joined at the back did Palace look half competent. Franky is so bothered by this he has asked Miljoyvich to play at the back. He knows this will put extra work on Punchy and has bolstered his confidence and support with the captaincy.
In a word Palace will be lucky to get away with anything for quite a few games. But the one rule I'm forgetting....this is Palace who knows?

We are going to make some surprise additions and will finish fourth this season and play champions league next. We'll get knocked out in the quarter final by Barcelona and we'll all give Messi a standing ovation at selhurst after his four sublime goals against us.

But the epic part about it all is... This RdB palace side captures the hearts of the Chinese who kept seeing their sponsors on our shirts and the richest family in China decide to buy our club.

In2019 us like Chelsea many years ago with the Russian... We become a big English club.. we buy out Charlton fc and use their ground as a part of our training empire.

We play the fa Cup final in 2019 and beat man utd 4-0 with Harry Keane scoring the winner for us.

In 2021 we finally win the bar clay premiership and do so for four more years after that consecutively.

After that I croak it thru heart attack as a result of all the shock of what my palace have achieved and also because I got caught molesting a cat in a park and can't control the embarrassment.

Optimistic for a number of reasons.

We have a better team than the start of last season after our excellent January signings.

We have added 2 quality youngsters, with hopefully another couple coming in.

The team will he fitter than they were at the start of last season

Dann for whatever reason had a poor season last year. Looks more like his old self in pre season.

The team will go on the pitch knowing exactly what us expected of them. Something that wasn't true under AP.

We will have a plan B. Although people seem worried about 343, I think it will be an additional way of playing, rather than the only one. I expect us to play this way if we can, but if it's not working, or depending on the oppoit ion, or home and away, I trust frank to change the style. Something that AP didn't do.

So on the whole I am very optimistic. ...
