The next game will show us how good FDB is, and how much he understands premier league footy.

Agreed. I won't whinge if we lose it (I mean we'll be the underdogs anyway) provided we show signs that lessons were learnt from the first game. Maybe not ALL the lessons, just that something has hit home.

On reflection the result Saturday, could be a blessing in disguise. If we had won, due to Huddersfield being poor, we would of carried on playing in this fashion.
It was a quick lesson to de Boer what the Premier is about, we have plenty of time to address the situation.
It is obvious a few players aren't comfortable playing with the ball, Dann was an embarrassment trying to pass the ball, how much is he being paid? I can only think Puncheon must be awesome on the training pitch, as it can be the only reason he is in the team, done nothing for 15 months.
37 games to go.

That crossed my mind for the second time in recent months. The last time was Sunderland, and I think we'd all agree Sunderland was a wake up call. So I hope you are right and this is just this year's "Sunderland" game come nice and early and with the window fortunately still open.

Quote from the Guardian. ...

The Dutch an needs his existing players to learn quickly. The way he gesticulating at then to hit long passes to escape Huddersfield pressing suggested he found their attempted application of the ajax pholosophy to splistic. "You have to recognise when you have to play it on the ground and when you don't" h said.

So he's not expecting them to play it out all the time. If teams are pressing them he wants to play more direct. But the players are too bloody thick to know when to pass short or long. I'm sure he was suprised by that, and hopefully drill it onto them before Saturday when there's no doubt we will get pressed high again.

This was always going to be a project. FDB cannot change Palace in a relatively short space of time to playing 3-4-3.
He is no fool and wouldn't have accepted a challenge in the Premiership like Palace unless he thought he could see his project evolve and achieve results.

Everyone needs to step back and give FDB and the squad a break and their support and encouragement not derision and abuse.
I am sure they will master this system and it will prove fruitful but we will all have to be a bit more patient.
The own goal and the header was not caused by playing 3-4-3 On another day Benteke would have not had that header saved and possibly connected with the low cross, Wilf should have possibly scored with his shot and Dann well enough said!
FDB will get far more out of the youngsters Riedewald, TFM and RLC as they get used to playing in the Premiership and grow in confidence. There hopefully will also be some other transfer business done who knows?
For me its not even down to the next game its going to evolve over time showing gradual signs of improvement as we go. So some people just need to cut FDB and the squad some slack and calm down a bit.

Palace under 23 side beat burnley in impressive style 2-0 playing 343.
Cabaye played well for first 45 mins, then was
Replaced by mcarthur who was really impressive playing box to box central midfield role, scoring 2nd goal....things looking up?

I have no issues with 'the project' but it's a 3 year project not 4 months, do it gradually, implement it slowly and don't be a stubborn mule.

This is a key point and undoubtedly the problem. Some of the players are too thick to know when is a good time and when isn't! Hennesey the obvious example. The one time he did decide to go long, he created a chance for Wilf.

IF the players can learn to mix it up then the nut will be cracked. My fear is some players are too limited in their thinking and will not be able to get their heads round it!

Gradually was said by Parish so something has gone wrong.

Be interesting if it continues to fail how long Parish puts up with it after the 'gradual' comments and sticking with Pardew.

Interesting Frank has only played 3-4-3 once at Inter in his very last game before sacked. Now big managers at bigger clubs are playing it he's come here determined to play it before assessing the players yet saying they're suited for it, only needing to play 3 newbies and needing another 2/3. Hopefully the suspicion of bullsh1t doesn't ring true and we're not cut adrift from here into 10+ games in.

The booing and the writing off after one game are ridiculous, but I do have reservations about 3-4-3. IMO we are ideally suited to 4-3-3 with Luka doing the Jedi in front of the centre halves and RLC and Cabaye in front of him. No room for Punch, but unless he starts passing forward and picking out the runs he doesn't deserve a place.
I will back FdB and he will prove me wrong (?) but it will take time to settle and, again IMO about 3 new signings. Goalkeeper was already vital, now it's a damn emergency.
