I can only dread thinking of a scenario whereby FDB proves a flop and is sacked and lo and behold Freedman is given the reins.

All this giving former Palace manager jobs eg Salako,Bright etc. What is Jim Cannon doing these days ?

So am I right in assuming we are accepting relegation and low quality signings with this appointment ...? Whoa easy it's only an opinion

Regardless of what happened and him leaving, he's still such a hero of mine and glad he is back at the club!

Agree. He was the bright light on the pitch during sine dark times. I'm over the whole leaving thing. He certainly has an eye for a bargain.

I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like.

Oliver Burke described Freedman as a "father figure" so would think that would look a very likely signing now.

Lots of malice towards Dougie still borne by many on here.

Interesting that Steve Parish is able to move on and wants to work with him again. I always got the feeling that both men would have acted differently if they could have wound the clock back.

Even for Palace it's barely credible that Freedman is being brought as a possible replacement for FDB should he fail.

So I wish Dougie well in his new role and I'm glad he's able to play a part with the club.

Personally I think it's another indication that De Boer genuinely wants to succeed here at Palace. Reading into the quote in the article, you'd have to assume he had a part to play in the appointment.

An appointment of his repute, a former player of his stature could quite easily have come here with an ego, an arrogance and not even entertained the idea of work with a sporting director.

He has recognised that our fan base on match day is fantastic, he's appointed 'One of our own' as Captain (whether he should be playing is a separate issue), he's said he'd give young players a chance when the opportunity arises and now he's willing to work with Freedman who is a legend for us (Misguided and ill informed when he left us). Most 21st century, forward thinking football clubs have a similar structure and that has been addressed very quickly since he has been in charge of the team.

De Boer has done homework (referring to our previous performances (results last three seasons) at Anfield in recent seasons would be one of many indicators of this) and that has to be applauded.

He wants to be liked by the fans here that is blatently obvious.

This is why (in my opinion) that he deserves more respect than he has been given thus far and that he should be given due time to do what needs to be done to improve the club.

I see very few negatives thus far. When he get results against Ipswich and Swansea this week, as well as the promise of a couple of signings (you'd assume Burke will be joining now with the Freedman connection) will have been a good week for Palace.

I want Frank to Succeed but it's written in the stars for Dougie to come in and save us isn't it?

The side Freedman ( and others) forged that won promotion was put together on a flimsy budget,I am very pleased he is back in spite of taking a wrong turning to Bolton.

Would imagine this is part of trying to follow an Ajax type blueprint, with ex-players littered throughout the non-playing staff. Whether this strategy has come from de Boer is probably the key, I'd like to think it has.

Freedman's strengths seemed to be in recruitment, albeit at a different level to that which we operate now but suppose we are looking at making economical deals that might allow us to make some profit.

I think I'm more enthusiastic by the idea of a sporting director with connections to the club than the identity of the individual we've landed on.
