Couldn't make it up. One squad place free, one senior striker in the squad, about seven defenders and we want to sign Bacary Sagna. Absolutely bonkers.

Yes we could do with another striker but sitting on the bench at Palace in case Benteke gets injured is a pretty hard sell unless we want to throw 80k a week at someone average. Support the team and try and understand why certain decisions are made rather than just moaning all the time - that isn't directed as a personal attack on you, more an observation at the constant moaning on here.

Well we have three vacancies and one opportunity to fill one of them, and we've already had a thread in which most people agreed that support and backup for Benteke was the highest of those priorities. Plenty of people have opined that going into the season with just one senior striker is madness, and so it is. The vacancies are for striker, right back and keeper. I think that the general feeling isn't that we should buy / loan a Benteke clone in case he gets injured but perhaps a different style of striker who could come on as a sub to change our style of play

You're doing it again. We either sign someone for £80k or not. No in between. Sorry but you lose all credibility with these kind of posts. 1 striker, umpteen defenders, and you excuse it. 'Try and understand why these kind of decisions are made'. No, you understand it. It's ridiculous, and will be very costly if Benteke gets injured.

Edited by chateauferret (05 Sep 2017 9.10am) Yes it is madness and I totally agree that we need another striker be it a different option or a similar player, however I prefer to think that the board did everything they could to secure one but made the decision that of the available options, they didn't provide anything near to value for money. I'd honestly rather use Sako up front than some of the crap we were linked to when you consider the outlay on transfer fee, wages etc

If we are going to go out an buy some average player that wont be good enough, why even bother? Just use one of the utility players or some youth. A decent example of a inbetween player is Jordan Mutch - 5 million is fairly modest in this market yet no one on here (including me) would say that was even close to a good idea. I just think that we are lucky to have a board that actually give a f**k and rather than always assuming the worst we should believe that they did what they could. I'm not blindly following the club and not criticising, I'm a season ticket holder so have to put up with the rubbish week in week out and trust me I moan but you have to be realist too and understand where we are as a club.
