Oddly Hedgehog that makes sense based on posts. I feel sorry for the "road man" from Lewisham.

Personally I don't have a problem with the best person for the right job but rarely hiring the indigenous population would be statistically "unusual" to say the least.

The over-reliance on the ubiquitous HR portal means to be honest monkeys could do hiring, and when downsizing, or going through corporate change never trust a HR manger without reference to a lawyer, AND never get them involved in rewarding key person, talent or loyalty, unless filling in the payroll form.

The Prem squads? The service sector, catering, in central London? The fruit-picking industry, etc. All very heavily weighted with overseas employees who are supposedly the best people for the job.
Now I wouldn't mind seeing a limit on the footballers but the the other jobs we just don't have enough natives willing or able to do them. An HR dept there would have no choice but to employ very mainly foreigners, surely?

That's half the problem.

They can facilitate and assist but they do not have the experience to do more than that. Unfortunately, as you can see from quotes they think they can do more, even in certain instances "run" the business.

Why should these business areas be very heavily weighted with overseas "serfs"? Are you suggesting that East Anglian jobs are below East Anglian people?

For example I am sure SS is busy picking Wisbech peas and such. Unless he has something "better" to do.

Care to state the industry? Perhaps the contracts are that poor.

As a HR director this seems not only at least indirectly racist, but borderline illegal.

Personally I would expect a lot more from my HR Director, the whole business function is getting lazy with downsizing, IT developments and in many industries poor UK exam grading.

In today's business world, HR has an over blown sense of its self importance, and often the first thing that in my experience needs to be changed when changing under performing corporate culture.

I shall start by saying you are an idiot of the ultimate kidney. Racist indeed. Borderline illegal. Overblown. Lazy. Any more insults you wish to throw at me? You just have no idea.

If you had read my posts you would see that much of my hiring is for 'shortage occupations' as established by UKVI. By the nature of such occupations there are insufficient, almost no, indigenous employees available. But don't let facts get in the way of a good rant, you didn't bother asking before your rant so why ask now?

If you don't get applications from people born in the UK it's pretty hard to hire them. That is the point being made in one of the links that I don't think Stirling had read properly before he posted it.

If you discourage people from studying for lesser paid jobs by clobbering them with debt you get what you deserve.

The Government in its wisdom claims to have noticed that in our case but is still really only paying lip service to the problem. It's damned hard to find decent escorts in the UK these days, especially 'well prepared' ones.

All this sort of mentality does is serve business and drive wages down. It does nothing for the interests of individuals.
If wages and conditions were better, people might apply for the jobs. This is what globalisation is doing for our society, but it's much easier to blame the government isn't it.

If you weren’t blinded by racial prejudice you would see in stereoscopic like the rest of us.

In the UK there is a huge list of ‘shortage occupations’. As you can’t normally hire people in these areas within the UK you are allowed to hire them from overseas, i.e. not the EU.

The list includes some odd stuff like musicians and dancers. It also includes lots of engineers, teachers, doctors etc.

I hire into a shortage occupation which has very standard wages and conditions across the UK. I try to hire locally wherever possible. That is almost impossible and the few people available know they are monopolistic and tend to mess employers around badly. If you put up wages to attract them your business model becomes unsustainable immediately.

This is not an areas where you can train people from scratch, a University Degree is required,
So I also look overseas. It takes 9 months from offer to getting the employee and there are several really big hurdles placed in the way.

This is one of the jobs that people seem to think you don’t need HR to do.

If I and others like me didn’t hire people into these jobs the quality of life in the UK WOULD be considerably worse.

You can argue until the cows come home about why there is a shortage but the simple fact is you can only hire when there are people available to hire.

As someone that has spent his life working in other peoples’ countries I enjoy having the mix of cultures myself, especially as this is inexorably the future. I am not - and cannot be - prejudiced in favour of any race, culture or place of birth. The concept that any employer is prejudiced against UK born people has no substantiation in law (show me the successful cases), whereas there are plenty of clear examples of employers being biased in favour of white UK born people.

I stopped reading after that sentence.

I'm not the one who said they only employs foreign workers am I.
You can waffle on all you like and make stupid accusations but the fact is that you are contributing to a system that promotes the import of labour rather than training Brits.
