A rare thing indeed. Man U in the nineties had 5 and Barca 2008 had six from youth in their best starting eleven. We sh1t em. We had nine on that night in '79. Doris, Kenny, Billy, Vince, Jerry, Peter N, Steve K, Jim and Dave S. The only two not were Budgie and ? Walshy was a sub. Another. Makes 10. Incredible.

edit: Walshy did start. Blimey. All 10 outfield players from the seventies youth set up. That must be a record and one we can be proud of for a change.

It's just a shame it all went 'Pete Tong' so quickly. Which sums up a lifetime of supporting this club.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I'm perhaps not as 'mature' as some as those who have contributed to this topic to date, but boy you have made me laugh.

I just dont know how you manage to remember all this stuff - amazing.

Salute the anoraks supporting the Palace

We remember because for 12 months we dared to dream. Top of the entire league with 10 home grown players. That team, technique and tactics wise, with today's diet and training regimes, would crap on our best first XI now.

When you get to my age it's good to be able to remember anything

I've been called a few things over the years, but never an anorak!! This is a proud moment!!

Can remember a couple of long range screamers against Bolton and West Ham (I think).

Also he was involved in a barney at Sainsbury's in Chislehurst that made the papers?

78/79 was my first full season and our starting 11 rarely changed - and there was only 1 sub. I could recite it then and still can now.

I was mortified that we signed Gerry Francis and Micky Flanagan and just wanted it to be that team forever.

Of course the rest is history - Sansom off to the Arse, Paul Barron and Cliv Allen in, Venables and half the team to QPR and season after season of dross until Sir Steve turned up - and it took him a good few seasons to turn us around.

I was 11 when I was part of the 51,482 (and the rest) v Burnley. I thought those days would last forever.

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

That season was the only one where I went to every game, home and away....I chose well !

Greatest Palace side ever, absolute pleasure to have watched them, although not home grown , a special mention for Mick Elwiss, who was some player

Good shout, if he hadn't got injured we might have had the title sewn up before the last game, because he was scoring some important goals before Christmas

He certainly was, such a shame getting injured.
I recall we had bad luck with Kevin Mabbutt around that time as well, another player who looked very good.
