Didn't Kelly have his contract extended?

We then sign Riedewald and Sakho to total 7 CBs and don't sign a striker. A lot of this has been self inflicted.

How about Hennessey and Jules?

Pick any of those.

Without a doubt...which is clearly what I'm saying...we've given mediocre players stupid money and now cant offload them to free up funds or spaces in teh squad as a result

Yes, then added to the problem by extending players' contracts without a manager even knowing about it. Parish decided on those. Unless someone who's experienced tells Parish how it has to be or he's off, that's what happens. Well until the season is over and we've survived. 7 CBs and one striker.

If I were Delli Ali, bearing in mind football is ALL about money for the players, I would not sign anything with Tottenham and let clubs know I would be up for moving. A top club would triple his current wages.
Im amazed that Tottenham have got a lower pay structure than us and are way below their competitors.
As a player you need to realise that every season is a prisoner. Top dollar needs to be constantly considered..........and no I am not an agent, but I wish I was!!!

Ali is a diamond in the rough and will be on a whopping salary if he continues to mature. Whilst our average salary is supposedly £60,000 a week we are by far not the only club in the PL with a lot of deadwood around, home grown and international. Can't see a lot changing in this regard for some seasons yet, with another huge TV deal to come.

Hard to say with all of them, but it is also possible that as part of Allardyce's 'advice' he suggested we retain those players. Then FDB came in and had other ideas.

Or maybe Parish didn't want to be in the same position people accused him/Pardew of before of getting rid of influential figures in the dressing room without properly replacing them.

The op said it shows just why we're in this mess so that's why I posted, so it is relevant.

Midlands Eagle is right, you hijack as many threads as you can repeating the same old points.
From what I can see the OP post doesn't mention Parish or Frank and is not related to them.

Yeah because you 2 don't like knowing that Parish has c0cked up big time, several times, over 24 - 30 months, in the same or similar ways.

It could get us into major trouble indeed if we were to go down. Examples all over the place and who could be confident about us getting back soon?

The only way will be to supplement the wages when they move on which is exactly what we should consider with some of them.

Quite a few of the squad have contracts expiring at the end of the season including Sako, Chung-Yong, Ward and Delaney

Yes true, but....

Sakho, van Aanholt, Schlupp, Tomkins amongst others have contacts till 2021 and you would not think anyone will pay them what we are doing now would you.....?
Well Sakho maybe if we let him leave for a small fee.
it is not Wilf, Benteke or Townsend I am worried about. Its the likes of Mutch and Schlupp being on massive wages which we will have to carry once gone down.

And I know there are parachute payments but would it not be nice to rebuild with them just in case.....
