Well, I'm glad I got out of there. It was turning into a real s*** hole back in 2001. According to this. Unhappy places appear to be areas where immigration is high and the happy places look like white flight middle class areas. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (13 Oct 2017 6.08pm)

Croydon has always had a dour unhappy feel to its soul since the town planners let rip back in the sixties and when it was 99% WASP. Nothing to do with immigration. It's just the essence of the place.

As a youngster in the 80s in south London I didn't even regard Croydon as London it was middle class Surrey

I used to work in Croydon until I managed to escape to Haywards Heath in 1978 and it was a dump back then but from reading the Croydon Advertiser I don't think it was as bad then as it is now
