The major changes aren't a secret. Many were described in the government's response to the petition which is earlier in the thread. There may be other steps that aren't been made public but I suspect they would be more concerned about how the criminals are found and prosecuted, rather than the way the victims are supported and protected. I don't know though. We will know. That's the role of the media who I am quite sure will keep a very close eye on what's happening. OK, we’ll see. With all these diligent and concerned professionals on the case it makes you wonder how the situation was allowed to develop in the first place but as long as we have the “lessons learned” mantra everything will be fine.

I am not getting into that discussion because I am, unlike so many on here it seems, not an expert on such matters. I am not either defending the government. All I have done is speculate on what might lie behind their decision. Without knowing what their reason is makes attacking, or defending, it rather pointless.

I would prefer that no group of any kind are stigmatised because some people who originate within it have committed criminal acts. That applies to everyone. The same principal applies in other circumstances. It applies to football supporters not all being categorised as hooligans, politicians not all being thought self serving or people from Brighton all being gay. It has zilch to do with any "hippy trippy idealism"! Such an idea brought a big smile to my face. If you knew me you would realise I am as far from being a "hippy" as it's possible to be. It's only to do with fairness and, actually, to try to make sure the "pakistani Muslim" community stay inside our tent, and help solve the problem, rather than isolating them and making things worse.

Fairness to whom? They are not in our tent and never have been, they are in a tent based on a design from c600AD
