Same as work really!

Yes understand your thinking but he has just started a 5 year contract and whilst we all know that is designed to also give us a good fee we are still in the driving seat as to when he will be sold and IMO this should not be January and the manager and board should be on the same page on this. Wonder what the Yanks are thinking??!!

They are on the same page. Wilf will only go when SP agrees to it.
Which will not be January.

All I remember reading from Roy was if someone came calling with a big offer and Wilf wanted the move, there's nothing he could do to stop it. I've now read that in three places, which is why one could easily think he was constantly going about it.

I've read it in half a dozen places but they are all probably scraping the information from the one place in which it originally appeared.

But apart from this Wilf situation, which is out of his hands and getting things back on track, Roy is doing a fantastic job, partly because of the reasons stated in the article.

May it continue.

I like the fitness aspect of it. This was reportedly an issue under Pardew that Allardyce fixed, and now another "old school" manager has come in and done the same.

For my entire life, it seems, Palace have been the victims of late goals at the end of either half. I distinctly remember (with a small twitch) watching the scores on teletext with Palace sitting on a 1-goal lead or a tie, with the dreaded "L" next to the score. Inevitably, as the "L" turned to an "R", there would be a goal added to the opponent's side of the ledger.

In Roy's Run™, we have been the scorers, not the victims, of late goals. Hat fulls of them. It speaks to fitness but also to belief and mental fortitude. It's a very different thing for Palace, and it's fantastic.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Agreed 100%.

I was asked by a non Palace supporting mate the i her day if O was happy with Roy at Palace. In “you can’t be happy about that” kind of way.
I replied with “ Abso f***ing lutely over moon. Have you seen our results and the way we’ve been playing under him??
He obviously hadn’t been paying any attention.

If so also a poor indictment on FdB as fitness should never of dropped under his reign.

I concur with this, I think Roy's being shrewd, saying "he's not for sale" could slightly de-motivate, but by being realistic & saying we may possibly release if a Champs league team make an acceptable offer, then he's effectively saying to Wilf - Go on then son, keep going & improve further.

The effect of Roy

I have to say I am very impressed with Hodgson’s man management skills. He speaks exceptionally well at press conferences, talks a lot of sense and is clearly enjoying the management challenge at Palace.

He deflects any criticism onto himself and any credit goes to the team, often singling out deserving causes or highlighting players for the odd mention of merit. A little different to Allardyce who although doing a fine job in keeping us up seemed to like taking credit himself for anything positive and deflected negative press onto the players!

Roy picked a cracking team yesterday, left plenty of people wondering initially (myself included) in some of his choices however couldn’t fault his selection by the end of the match!
I believe that Roy is inclusive of the whole squad, his training practices are clear and concise, has included a lot of defensive and stamina training and he clearly knows how to work with and motivate every squad member. Some players who were clearly out in the cold now starting to respond 'under new management'

Also by selecting Hennessey yesterday, he seems to now have both keepers back in the frame, hungry and vying for selection (yes, we do still need to strengthen in this area) however, makes me wonder how he would have coped with Mandanda? I bet Roy would have managed him better and Steve would still be here!

There is also a perceived improvement in the players fitness levels. Palace are now putting teams under massive pressure late into matches, still looking to score late goals even into extra time (that never used to happen). Luka reportedly covering 12.69 km (the furthest distance of any player) against Manchester City yesterday.
