I may be missing something here Rudi but are you trying to say we should splash the cash on a forward.... To replace a forward the splashed the cash on - £30mill+ when we thought he would score goals on another we can hope to score goals... I don't think cpfc can happily keep throwing £30mil at forwards and get a poor return. Maybe if we bought forwards for a tad less we'd have more than we do and maybe it's a good thing we are using diligence in buying another so we don't set fire to £30 mil again as Bent eke sure isn't worth that nowc

A lot of that I've not said. Splashing cash or £30 mil again.

Reminds me of Eastenders. Person listening isn't really listening and goes into an irrational outburst.

I agree on Benteke not being worth £30 mil unless somebody mad comes along and he'll be out when that happens but the fact remains we need someone and not nobody because nobody is better than the players DF has been looking at for 5 months.

First choice in his position when everyone is fit.
Good enough to make the first choice team better than it is.
Something to excite the fans, players and media.
Someone other teams would like to have.

If the answer to all or most of these is 'no', then congratulations, you are a benchwarmer!

To use examples that we have (rightly or not) been linked with, Niasse, Barnes or Ulloa are obvious benchwarmers. Dembele isn't.

So you're talking about squad players, who everyone agrees we are short of. My point is the squad players should be ones who are young hungry and a point to prove, rather than expensive cast offs. We havd to improve the squad as a whole, and we aren't a big enough club to have a bench full of quality expensive proven players.

“Better sign nobody than the wrong player” ... 100% right.

If only there was a dedicated set of backroom staff on the payroll whose job it was to seek out the “right” players for the club, and have those targets ready to go for during a transfer window.

Maybe there is and they have. As far as I know the transfer window is still open.

Completely agree. My concern is that rather than buy someone young and hungry we go for someone late 20s and bang average, just because DF and SP feel under pressure to produce.

To be fair they might have identified a good sized list of suitable and affordable players, but if their clubs won't sell, or they won't join us, then there's nothing the club can do.

We only have a little over twenty four hours to go and then we either cheer or moan dependant on what transpires in the intervening short period

I don't doubt there are plenty of 'wrong players' to spend money on, but you have to question why there seems to be some sort of surprise and urgency when it was about 5 months ago we knew we had only 1 striker in the team and only 2 keepers, neither of which are up to a standard we can justifiably expect. We then went on to lose 7 games without scoring and putting out a team without a fit striker!

There must be something wrong at the club for managers and owners to be almost insultingly echoing the downright obvious sentiments of the fans, acknowledging the situation, then not taking any action when the time comes, it's ludicrous. What are people like DF actually getting paid for at the moment?

Before anyone mentions the transfer window still being open, I would wager a large amount of money on us not getting a decent CF or GK signing in, let alone both. Someone to add to the squad of any reasonable quality is the best we can hope for and I'd accept that right now.

The only reason we haven't called it a day this season and we might just survive is the fact we now have a highly intelligent, experienced, tactical manager who can work with a ridiculous situation, such as a Premier League squad with one Striker, who has scored one goal and the under par WH or the much loved but very senior JS as GKing options.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

i agree with to OP’s sentiment.

last january didnt spend wisely IMO, this summer bar sakho we did, and that was to make up for expensive mistakes off schlupp & PVA , but parish was over a barrell from BFCS and had obviously promised funds.

this january we have signed replacements for delaney & punch. needed.

we seem to have tried for a 3rd keeper

we seem to have tried for a 3rd striker, tho saying that £11 for a old brazillian reeks of desperation, i assume we will still try for a backup striker (thats all we need) and will hopefully spend wiser.

i would rather right now we signed nobody rather than panic buy, we will be fine with no further signings IMO.
