There were only 44 deals done in January - including pre-arranged ones - for players coming in to Premier League Clubs.
Three of those were ours.
A few of them were the big bucks ones where teams like us are not even at the table - they don't count in our world.
Many of them are for players we have never heard of - yes - we have two of them I know.
Many were for players this forum would not have wanted - Sturridge is an example.
A few also for lower league players going to big clubs for the future.
So - it is not all bad and not every other team has done well whilst we have done nothing.
January is a feeding frenzy and whilst I think we still have a lot to learn we are okay.
Our injuries have meant that we had a sudden need for more players and they don't just appear when you click your fingers.
We might have been working a on a few deals for a while only to find we have a depleted squad at the last minute and I think we have done okay considering.
I really don't think that SP or DF just muck about not doing anything and I don't think they deserve the level of vitriol some people on here are throwing at them!

I know enough about the football transfer business to know that I know nothing. From where I am sitting, it seems completely unregulated and full of sharks, although I can’t even be sure of that. The one thing I do know is that I am glad that the window is finished, and that it won’t be coming back next season.

I've lost all belief in anything that Parish says from now. It started to look likely we wouldn't get a decent CF, GK plus some much needed squad players in. I don't know why, it's been obvious what we've needed for quite literally years, but would have settled for one marquee signing.

Parish doesn't know anything about football and is full of s***!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Post of the year!

The fact is none of us know what goes on behind the scenes. Sadlly, a number of fans get seduced by sky making what is a pretty boring day drama and then go mental when things don't happen. We're all guilty in a way. Yesterday I was gutted we didn't spend 18m on a player I know nothing about in a position of the pitch where we're strongest. I allowed sky to make me an irrational buffoon.

Has it been our best window? Nope, injuries are making it harder to stomach. However, to blame parish and DF is harsh when none of us really know the intricacies behind transfers.

Nice post. I have just tried to say a similar thing on another thread. I am just glad it is over.

OK looks like people are going to be up in arms blaming Parrish for this transfer window.

It has been apparent, for anyone who has been following the Amadou saga, that this is NOT Parrish's fault.

For those who are coming on and just saying `just give them more money` and `get your cheque book out` Firstly it is nowhere near that simple. We are restricted by FFP as to what we can spend and so the fee was always on the understanding of a fee for a loan until the end of the season and then a fixed payment, which could be made once we had received more incoming funds in the form of finishing position prize money.

It was Lille who allowed negotiations to go on and then had an 11th hour change of mind as they could not recall one of their players on loan.

Although we always want a signing to come into the club I think it is worth remembering that at the beginning of January neither us as fans nor the club felt a new Defensive Midfielder was the highest priority. The club felt Amadou was a good `extra` to the window.

Of course we all want big signings, its exciting for us but not always what is best for the club. Last season we did big business in the January window which did work well for us but this put a strain on our finances in the summer signings and there is a natural legacy of this. We have spent the season concerned with the lack of strength in squad depth and we have come out of the transfer window in a better position than when we went into it. The much demanded need for a striker has been sorted with a young lad with potential. New over and CB and Midfield. The question of GK is still unanswered but I think (As I have said repeatedly) that Guiata is a done deal for the end of the season and personally I think us spending 7-8 mill (Euros) just to bring him in before the summer would be bad business. Yes he might keep us up with some great performances but he is just as likely to come and not be able to adapt or settle.

I suspect that most other fans forums for our direct opponents are also all bemoaning the window.
None of them can really say hand on heart that the players they have got in will do the business for them.
Our new boys might be brilliant - who had heard of Luca before he came to us - what a player we have now!
Swansea's purchases look good on paper but will they be good when push come to shove.
We still have a fit (for now)
Zaha, Sakho, Cabaye,Luca, Benteke and Townsend to name but a few.
There are 6 players who every one of the teams around us would probably want - they are already ours!
Our injuries are to Punch - none of us wanted him anymore really
Dann - a loss but probably bench now
Schlupp - a proper loss in my opinion
Wickham - hasn't played for over a year
B Sako - a loss
RLC - a loss
Three players out who REALLY matter but we have three new ones in.
It is not the problem we think it is in my opinion and I agree with Laddo - SSN and others in the media hype it all up and we start to buy in to it.
44 deals remember - that's all - for the whole of January and Sanchez and Mikatarian count as two!
We are fine!

Strongest area of the pitch when fully fit squad but we’ve lost Puncheon for the season and probably Loftus Cheek by the sounds of things. Cabaye and MacArthur are a little injury prone and we have only bought Rakip in. I guess Riedewald can play there and hopefully Nya Kirby is developing very very quickly. Don’t think it’s the disaster that some are making out but we should have paid above the odds earlier for another goalkeeper or bought a promising youngster for less who could have been back until Hennessey’s contract expires at the end of the season. There must have been someone available. If we’re still in the premiership we can upgrade then. SP shrewd in employing Freedman who can shoulder responsibility if signings don’t work out, which hopefully they will.

Only 7 purchases were made by Premiership clubs on deadline day, just goes to show how difficult it it is to get deals completed.
With all the hype the media whip up about it, supporters expectations are are raised.

I am delighted that we have bought two with potential, rather than spunk money on players at the end of their careers. This window has been slow and clubs don’t like doing deals in January.

We should have enough to get us out of trouble, injuries permitting, and then add in the summer.

Be grateful for what we have. It wasn’t so long ago that we were signing Andy Dorman and Owen Garvan.

The failure of the Amadou deal was clearly not Parish’s fault but it may not have been Lille’s either. Maybe he travelled to London in his own steam in the hope that he could force something through and was never going to be allowed. Maybe the club that Lille’s player was on loan to have led Lille on into thinking a recall was an option if they could find a better player? Maybe Amadou’s agent playing us off against West Ham complicated things. All speculation, we know nothing so shouldn’t get overly excited. The only thing I would say is if Roy thought it was important to strengthen that position we should have had plans B’s C’s and D’s or tied something down earlier:
