Waschatting with some friends from Yorkshire and they were raving over the plays and tv stuff from Alan Bennett.I said I thought it was a load of northern twaddle..what do other holers think ?

Love to hear him speak he has a great accent. Seen a couple of his plays always enjoyed them.

Loved his 'Talking Heads' series. Some wonderful characters, especially the drunken, adulterous vicar's wife in The Hand of God.
A stairway to Heaven and a Highway to Hell give some indication of expected traffic numbers |

Alan Bennett has revealed so much that is touching and human about the normal, mundane existence of British working and middle class people. His work is really a justification of the importance of the individual in a society demanding conformation.
Winning isn't everything. Without the defeats we would not value the victories. Still, it's a shame we can't play Chelsea every week. |
