I don't really want to say look how far we've come but getting us promoted was taking us to the next level. He did that.
Survival in the premiership was the next level after that. He did that too. Then ensuring we are a stable premiership club.. He's almost done that.

See Southampton was mentioned losing all there top players, think there is bigger issues there and not as financially sound as us.
We can get to the top 6 but we need cup wins to build us up to start with.playing in the europa cup can get us in champions lge which in turn will keep players at the club, but thats no walk in the park.
the owners know we have the largest catchment area in london close to a potential million supporters just need to give them a local team with success and we can get up with the big boys.

Sadly, we will never be a top 6 team, if you think we can then you will be disappointed. We haven’t got the infrastructure or money to achieve that. Winning a cup or Europa cup are no guarantees, look at many who have risen only to fall like a stone Leeds, Wigan, Blackburn and Fulham to name a few.
Parish knows our level and. Top 10 side is about it. Staying in the Premiership is very difficult and not guaranteed for basically 14 teams each season.
Parish gets criticised often, but overall has guided Palace in the right direction.

We have a passionate chairman who loves the club and wants us to be successful not to boost share prices, but because he is a supporter. There is a fine line between relative success and failure for most clubs in the PL. We should be one step up from the promoted clubs and Saturday showed us that when we are on our game (and free of injuries) we do have more quality, which is thanks to Parish and the club's investment. We have had more success than failures in our signings, I believe, and we have maintained a good spirit.

This summer we have what looks like a top quality GK coming in plus possibly Amadou, who looks like another quality player. We have the opportunity to get some players like Lee and Mutch off the books which should allow us to either promote or purchase some promising young talent. If we can retain Roy, hold our core together and make a couple of astute signings then I believe we will be a lot more comfortable next season.

Of course first we have to stay in the league and there's still a long way to go.

below the top 6, it's pretty much a crap shoot. Southampton, stoke, west ham, west Brom. you wouldn't expect them to be in the mire the way they are. a few bad managerial selections, a bit of infighting and bang, they're in trouble.

So much for Southampton's black box. in the end they went for Mark Hughes, who might give them something, or might not. but he is just a.n. other "safe pair of hands" on the managerial treadmill.

being a premier league chairman is harder than it looks.

I'd agree that we are already on the next level, this is as good as it gets. Which is why I don't understand how there are can be negative fans who refuse to enjoy the ride.

Each season we will have much more chance of being relegated than obtaining a cup or a place in Europe. However the fact that one or other of these could happen is what makes football enjoyable.

Most important for me is not to be priced out of having a season ticket. I'd prefer Palace to play in League 2 and be able to afford to attend rather than be priced out of my seat but have Palace get into the top six. What's the point of supporting a club if you can't afford to attend?

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Nice points and all valid. But for us there isn't a next level IMO and, to be honest, it's better supporting a proper club than some plastic load of s***.

Exactly. This is the 'next level' ... we're actually here now! A dog fight season after season to stay up. We are not a big club and people get carried away with our potential crowd pull because of demographic. In the same way, clubs like Arsenal expect to win the Champions League & League season on season because they now have a state of the art of stadium ... boring / dull / soulless that it is!

I think they did well under Barry Hearn. The problems started when he got (rightly) upset with West Ham getting the Olympic Stadium and so decided to sell Orient to an erratic Italian.

Sadly the Olympic stadium going to West Ham was the kiss of death for Leyton O. There is an FA ruling which prevents a club from relocating to a stadium on another clubs patch. However this was swept under the carpet by Trevor brooking and the West Ham old boys at the FA.

Of course we cannot be a top-six club. The argument is really is it possible for us to be a club that is normally mid-table with occasional bad years when we flirt with relegation, whilst remaining 'solvent'. Once our ground has been updated and by that I think we will have to to more than just replace the old stand, then I think it is achievable.

In previous years we have said we need to try to be like Stoke or Southampton. Very few people would have bet on both those clubs being in relegation danger this year. We have to accept that even when/if established, we will have occasional bad years.

I agree broadly, but if the top six keep moving further away from the rest of us (as I think they are), then that would be depressing. There has to be more hope than avoiding relegation.

You've said it. The Southampton and Stoke and West Brom experiences are occasional bad years. One or maybe 2 of those won't go down and will recover while one or 2 will go down and compete sooner than we probably could. That's because our infrastructure isn't up to scratch.

Those clubs are flirting with the occasional danger whereas we're in it every season because our preparation is poor. People are excusing our annual mess because of them having the occasional bad time they'll recover from. None of them have spent massively so let's not pretend they're screwed if they get relegated.

Having a dozen or more games written off every season and an infrastructure and academy that's embarrassing for this level and likely to make the best talent go elsewhere is not as good as it gets. There is plenty of room for improvement that's achievable.

Hmmm. It's come at huge recruitment costs for known, or, to an extent, 'proven' prem players. Danger is the money runs out, the squad is too thin, starts to age etc. Therefore the stable has required spending loads of cash and the traps that holds we've experienced. We need to pull back from that a little and Parish and freedman know it but at the same time some not quite so costly players need hiring. Let's hope whoever is manager understands this but gets decent backing too.
