Thanks for the great memories.
Met the guy couple of times.
Another Dunlop legend gone.
R.I.P fella.

Sadly it's a price to pay for an adrenalin rush.
Even out on the road on two wheels ain't safe.
Go on the A2 and watch them weaving in and out of traffic.
Two wheeled coffin I think it's called.
RIP

Another sad loss for the Dunlop family but they accept the risks associated with this sport, it's in their DNA.

RIP William.

Shocking. Sad. Tragic. But not surprising. Do motorbike racing for a career and would you expect to outlive Prince Phillip for longevity ?

No, but there's far more to life than longevity tbf.

I used to race. Not a chance you’d get me on the Irish road circuits. Give me a nice wide track any day.

True but give yourself a chance of a bit.

I did. Like Mapletree, i also stopped 'racing' on the roads and started racing on the tracks.

For the record i'd love to have done the IoM TT but it never happened.

And I didn't even realise Joey (William's Uncle) had died in a crash some years ago.

I am 49 and was curiously looking at hiring a bike for a trip to the IoM. Think it's around £400 a day for a good bike, but the hirers know the risks are high.

Might just stick to PS3,...but it's ooh so tempting.

Yes, there is a world of difference between real road racing such as takes place in Ireland and the IoM, and track racing.

On a track if you have a spill you will often end up just sliding on your backside on the perimeter run-off zone, or bouncing off a foam safety bale. On true road circuits its more likely to be a wall, lamp-post or bus shelter that brings you to a halt. It's a bit a like being a trapeze artist who doesn't use a safety net.
