It seems that every transfer window we ask ourselves 'Have we learned this time?'

And every time the answer is no.

Think my problem all window is that we haven’t really been linked with anyone that has looked like a certainty to be signed. Ok we have Roy in charge which a looks a lot more stable but on paper we are weaker now than this time last season. Whilst I would say our starting 11 is fairly strong we don’t have much if not less coming off the bench going forward. That coupled with the likes of Wolves and Fulham making fairly shrewd signings for newly promoted sides doesn’t look great. Still keep the faith!! 🙏

I think it sums it up thst your post actually seems unreasonably optimistic.

I had a frission of excitement to hear that we had been beaten by Fulham to Schurrle. It meant that we weren’t completely inactive.

Honestly I can see no permanent signings, a couple of loans may be. Can't see RLC back here and Championship players bought in January. This season looks to be the gamble of survival or a serious asset stripping. Our finances are in a mess because SP is incompetent, his consortium definitely saved us but him in charge solo could destroy us. Palace fan he is but he much prefers his bank balance. Constant failure to address the squad will cost us, offering new contracts to has beens is desperation. Seriously believe the dream is over.

The early English deadline is going to make this one of the most interesting transfer markets for a while.
Some clubs have taken the buy early and then sell late route presumably on the basis they can still sell to Europe. European clubs will bide their time knowing that English clubs now have bloated squads they need to reduce. From what I can see teams like West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Leicester possibly even Huddersfield, Watford all fall into the bloated category.
So where does that leave us. We seem to have decided that we only need a couple of players and therefore we can play it European and pick them up from the unloaders on loan presumably at mark down prices.
I think we have actually done a good job over the last few years of reducing bloat to almost nothing but we do look thin. Since Dougie came in we seem to be concentrating on players who might be on a succession plan rather than instantly successful. Given the cost of a half a season wonder like Richarlison I think this is wise. I still believe there is hay to be made picking up players like Ollie Watkins a year earlier farming them out to the championship and us making the gain. I also think we should be looking at the last years transfers that are now being dumped out after a first unsuccessful year. I have always thought it takes a year for most to settle into the premiership.

That’s debatable. This time last year, we didn’t have Mamadou Sakho or TFM, and a couple of weeks later we didn’t have Wilf either. Lee and Sako were widely regarded on HOL as wastes of space, while AWB wasn’t even a twinkle in the eye!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

At the back end of last season I'm sure Roy said there will be a huge overhaul of the squad this season? So what's changed?
I understand we are still paying off big signings (Sakho, Benteke)
but surely they can see how thin we are. Jach off now too.
Everyone is spending, apart from us. I'm a bit worried.

Parish thinks our squad is good enough.

Personally I couldn't give a damn what Parish thinks as whilst he may be the chairman he is a businessman and not a football man and the only opinion that matters on whether our squad is good enough or not is that of the manager and he has gone on record as saying that it's week and needs strengthening.

Having said that, I'm not panicking as there is time left and if we use our two loan slots wisely plus one or two purchases we should be OK

I doubt if Parish has ever said that. No nobody ever thinks their squad is good enough and cannot be improved.
Without doubt players will come in before deadline day, the market has been very quiet so far, the media are struggling to whip up interest and making up possible moves.
RLC loan last year was a coup, I don’t see him coming back, unfortunately.

He said We have a very strong squad & excellent manager.

It's not a very strong squad at all! Maybe the first 11 is but the squad defiantly isn't.

Still plenty of time left if we start see others do lot of business and we still do nothing in the final week then we really are in trouble.
