Surprised he wasn't mentioned on Matteo's thread the other day?

It's 8 million so we're clearly on a budget and clearly don't want to invest the little we have on young players.

If that's the case, then fine, this is about where we're at with the quality of players available. However this idea that he's a "top player" is bizarre.

He's a poor man's Luka.

We're the Arthur over ere!

Was captain of Lyon. Can never have enough leaders in a team.
Can also play Center half which might come in handy as Dann isn’t back yet.
Doubt he’ll be as creative as Cabaye but we have plenty going forward so really might be decent to have two holding mids. Plus if Luka did get an injury IMO we’re in trouble as none of our understudies are a patch on him.

Could be a sound buy.

Getting a feeling we won’t be buying a forward this window and will work with the ones we have:

Wilf, Benteke, Wickham, Sørloth and Kaikai

Although could still imagine we might go for Antonio as cover / options on the wing.

Although can we afford both if we’re really not trying to spend this window.

Maybe Antonio is a back up should RLC not be available for another loan stint... who the heck knows!

10 million bid for this giy? He's got some of the slowest legs I've ever seen.

And he's pushing 30. I don't know what the people in charge of transfers are thinking. That he can replace Cabaye? He's more like a destroyer, not a creator like Cabaye. I thought he'd be going to a lowly French team, like Sochaux or Lorient, for free from Roma, not be the subject of a Premier League bid of 10 million!! Roma must be extatic receiving such a bid for an unwanted player!

Got them eliminated from the Champions League last year with his mistake and he hardly got playing time. Nor did he do much with it. Overrated in Lyon too, there were other players making him look good.

But rather than bite our hand off they leaked our bid, I assume because they think it’s either not enough or they can flush out other suckers. Never seen or head of him but if he’s a defensive midfielder then it doesn’t make sense

Tancredi Palimeri a reliable Italian journo has said this is ‘very likely to happen’

Gonalons is a solid CDm with bags of experience. Not as good as De Rossi, so it’s no surprise Roma would be willing to make a profit on him and let him go, but he could certainly do well enough for us. He has a few caps for France over the years so clearly has some quality.

He can play in defence as well and we need cover. At this point in time we need to bring in some players our squad is desperately short. This wouldn’t be my first pick, but it’s not a bad buy either.

It’s 10m euros, which is about 8.9m quid. Not sure how that rates in a world that’s gone mad, where Tom Ince has gone to Stoke for £12m, didn’t I read somewhere?

I'm fine with that, to be honest. Plenty of fire power. When you consider it's likely to be Wilf and Benteke or Wilf and Andros for most of the season.

Wilf, well, say no more.
Benteke can't possibly be as bad as he was in front of goal this season. New season....we all know his quality.
Wickham, undeniable class. We started seeing it before he got injured. Will push hard for a starting spot.
Sorloth - all indications are that he'll be a decent player at this level. Looks big, strong, quick, hungry...settled in well.

Matteo what's the one best value and one worst value transfer by any PL club you've seen this window?

I have no idea on this bloke. The only person who says he has awareness of him says terrible choice, and it's hard to see him and Luka in the same team, based on how he's described.

I really hope we can get a player with similar qualities to Cabaye, perhaps with more in his legs.

Have to say that Lemina from Southampton was a beast at our place, and is likely to lose his way/get disillusioned under Hughes, if he stays. No doubt far out of our budget. Oh well.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

He was involved in 23 games (in all competitions) averaging 65 minutes on the pitch (so that's puts him on a par with Cabaye!), with no goals and two assists. In reality, his main job was bench warmer. Roma bought him for £4.5m at the start of last season, so it would be interesting to know why his price has, at least doubled, in a, not particularly glorious, year.

Bit harsh they conceded 7 over 2 legs. Spoke to a friend of mine whose family are all Roma ST holders, he says he is a good player who was not given enough playing time. He struggled to settle in Italy after being at Lyon for about 17 years, which may have been a contributing factor as to why he didn't play. It should be remembered that Roma nearly reached CL Final, are we now saying those squad players aren't good enough for us? Wow! Matteo can I ask how you concluded he was overrated at a club that nurtered him from a very young age and kept him for so long?
