Can we have one game where we bring back the old habit of throwing toilet rolls onto the pitch? At school, in our woodwork project, we all had to make a rattle, because they were popular at football games those days. A rattle - if there's any readers here who weren't around in the days of Black and White television - was a weird device that sort of rotated around a stick and made a clacking noise. It was thought to help generate a sense of excitement. There also used to be a man with a sort of hollowed out oil drum, full of hot coals, on top which he'd roast chestnuts. They were lovely too. (I'm not making this up) There were two chanting traditions that seem to have died out too. The slow hand clap (which was a fantastic way of demoralising the players even more, when things weren't going well). The other popular chant, which seemed to be used at every game when I was a kid, went like this: "bert Head out! Bert Head out!" You try telling that to the Holmesdale Fanatics, and they'd just laugh at you. I tried to get the old Bert Head out chant going at a game once, and everyone just stared at me, like I was a lunatic.

What a wonderful trip down memory lane. However, you've forgotten the great days of the Stanley knife. What fun it was attending matches - especially away matches against Millwall! Originally posted by OhthisbloodyPC

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Edited by OhthisbloodyPC (31 Aug 2018 8.32am) Edited by OhthisbloodyPC (31 Aug 2018 8.34am) I still have my rattle from bygone days and I am not referring to my bones ! Certainly brings back memories ! Rattles, claret and blue walking sticks, rosettes and the 'Football League review' inserted in the matchday programme. And those darned scarves tied to wrists. I am sounding like an old git.

Could not agree more! Will be a real shame for the club to ruin something so amazing! Originally posted by brownsugar
Really sad..... the HF have been excellent for the club. Gave us an extra reason to be proud of the club and media edge over all the other not top six clubs. Much positive publicity centred on the great atmosphere at Selhurst; the HF have won us many friends. The club had a great opportunity here and should have supported, nurtured and worked with the HF, but instead, the reaction has been more negative and I really don’t understand why..... surely the right thing to do is for the club to offer some help; the banners and displays cost a lot of money....... and time, given for nothing by devoted supporters who turn up, never stop singing and get the players going when 2-0 down and the players respond during and after on twitter etc ...the players love the atmosphere too. Ok, the HF stand and there could be a health and safety slap on the wrist, but safe standing will arrive. I do not get it. We should all regret this.
