to be honest I am not too bothered about loosing either zaha or wan-bissaka.

Been there done that with with the whole not wanting to loose our "best players"

Same here, nothing will ever hurt as much as when Kenny Sansom and Ian Wright left, so I’m not losing any sleep over who’s possibly leaving this summer, what ever will be will be, there’s sod all we can do about it

Are you by any chance one of those fans who prefer lower league football?

thats where we disagree.
it depends on the situation and the players involved.

you can have a whole load of great players, but a bad team.

So we should buy average players and avoid the big mistake the top clubs make by keeping good ones?

I mean, we don't want to win anything or something terrible like that.

Most would’ve thought Leicester have average players aside from vardy when they won the prem. little was known about some of their players and others just gel better into a team

Albrighton for example. Hardly appealing to the eye in the way that he plays. But gets the ball in the box. Doesn’t bother taking on players but does it beckham style and whifts them in. Very unselfish player and hardly anyone wanted him before Leicester grabbed him.

Certain types of players with certain temperaments create better sides

Answer the following maths problem and then re-consider your above statement.

Which is better:-

4/10 6/10
9/10 6/10
4/10 6/10
4/10 6/10
4/10 6/10
4/10 6/10
4/10 6/10
4/10 6/10
8/10 6/10
4/10 6/10
4/10 6/10

Further consider the following. The relative weighting of positions is also ignored in the above scenario.

Let's say all our players are 5 out of 10s for a minute other than AWB who is 9 out of 10. I would trade downgrading AWB to a 5/10 if it meant upgrading centre forward from 5/10 to 8/10 in a heartbeat. Because a quality centre forward is worth more than a quality right back.

To confirm, these are theoretical maths points to prove your overall statement wrong - I'm not saying that the rest of our squad is overall 4/10s nor am I saying what we'd buy are 6/10s. Simply that you can overall upgrade the squad by selling one great player and improving a little bit in a few other positions.

This is actually what Liverpool did. Sold Coutinho (at the time arguably their best player) for £170m and reinvested by upgrading 4 or 5 positions in purchasing VVD, Fabinho, Keita, Shaqiri etc.

In Liverpool's case they hit the jackpot because they landed VVD as part of that exchange - effectively getting somebody at half Coutinho's price who had a massive impact on the squad.

NB: There is NOTHING to suggest we couldn't do the same. We could hit the jackpot on a cheaper player too - theoretically reinvesting AWB funds in a minor upgrade on Macca and PVA (for example) then also bagging an underpriced centre forward who changes our whole team around. Not saying that is a certainty - but its no less unlikely than your absolute doom relegated instantly scenario.

EDIT: I'm curious as to which bit of this you selectively reply to whilst ignoring the remainder because it doesn't help your terrible argument.

That has not been forthcoming.

We most certainly do need a striker and cover in defence but I would rather ride out another season with loan strikers than sell AWB prematurely.

This club must improve it's facilities, increase capacity and improve its profile in foreign markets.

Selling your best players is the road to nowhere.

And we will be doing this with what money exactly? You live in this fantasy dream world where we have infinite money and can have you cake and eat it. Sure, I want all of these things whilst keeping AWB too. But it isn't going to happen.

We won't get relegated just by selling a right back. So if selling AWB enables us to do some of the things you've listed here then surely that's a good thing?

We are not Liverpool. Their average players are better than most team's best.

You do what most do. You take a position and then argue for it no matter how unrealistic it is.

We play in the same league as the top clubs and we have to compete on that basis. Selling your best players cannot be a good idea. To believe that is just dumb.

If we sell it will be because the board gets an offer that they consider too good to reject. That should be a very big sum for the likes of AWB.
In my view, it would have to insurance against relegation, so something approaching 100 million.

In order to improve the squad we probably need to sell one of our prize assets. So that's AWB or Wilf.

I think of the two, Wilf is the harder to replace. So if we have to sell AWB then so be it.

It looks like a fee in the region of £50m could be incoming. That could potentially fund a right back and another player.

Hoping for £100m for a right back isn't realistic in my opinion.

I just knew you'd selectively reply and bite on one bit whilst completely overlooking the overall principle. It doesn't matter if you're Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Port Vale or Croydon Parish Church Under 9's girls team. The point is that you can sell your best player and overall improve the squad as the maths in my scenario set out.

Just because the player bought isn't as good as AWB does not make him average.
Dare I say it, the new player(s) bought may even be better than him!

So Would you rather Keep AWB if it means keeping with our current crop of players,
or
Sell AWB, and Buy a Striker and Creative midfielder? thus solving 2 problems in our Squad?
Surely by doing this your improving the team?

We should try and hold on to AWB for another season as he will go up in value.
If he does go now we need the best direct replacement we can get, plus we need a top centre back. Tomkins is a good honest pro but struggles against pace and is injury prone.
Hate to say it - Lewis Dunk would be an improvement
