I just don't think we look a threat from corners or free kicks into the box. Previously this has been an area of strength for Palace. Also in the last 3 games the pivotal goals have come about due to defensive errors when defending set pieces.

agree with most of what you say, but a low ball to the edge of the box is something that (a ) would only work once if we're lucky and (b ) creates highly dangerous counter attacking possibilities if ballsed up....one good touch and they're breaking against limited numbers of defenders. We used to be set piece masters. I remember when they would pur about our routines on MOTD.

I don't know why we are so rubbish at something that should improve with practice. We are also tall throughout our squad. Maybe we need Kane to take our corners. Edited by ASCPFC (12 Nov 2018 9.21am)

We are vulnerable defending set pieces, and totally lacking any threat when attacking them. The delivery is usually awful from corners, and every free kick is floated to Tomkins at the back post - entirely predictable.

A genuine question: when did we last score in a league game from a corner? Or from a free kick?

We really are rubbish from set pieces. The only threat we have is Tomkins. Why is Sakho so ineffective too? literally does not get near anything.. Oh for the days when Dann used to get on the end of everything

I have to believe if Benteke was playing we would also be defending them a lot better. He certainly is crap at scoring goals but he does some other things well. If he was anywhere near that second ball for the spurs goal he wouldn’t just stand and watch it like Ayew did. We used to be very strong in this department under Pulis but it’s been downhill since then.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |
