I think we needed a new Cabaye and Meyer looked great for it. Small, mobile, good passer, vision. Just been an average start for him, which is fairly common.

Batshuayi works if he massively cuts the relegation risk and lifts us a few places. I think he will/might.

But I do completely agree with your sentiments.

I agree with you, and I like Meyer. I just don’t think Roy does or will. Maybe another manager will.

Jedinak and Murray took time but fitted, and I could see why Freedman bought them. The jigsaw just wasn’t ready and Jedinak was a skinny and Inaccurate passer. But Meyer will always be small. It’s whether that’s ok for the manager. Doesn’t look that way with Roy.

Where you think we should be after 10 years in the Premier, is exactly what about another 20 clubs want. Many are in a far better position of infrastructure than us, as we have suffered from severe mis management from previous Owners.
It’s not easy to achieve, as many have found out. Why do you think it’s not difficult to be hovering around the top 6, many clubs have thrown millions at trying, but get nowhere, Everton is a good example.

We are five years in. I said 10 from now, so 2029. So 15 years total from the point of promotion.

I did not say it was easy, or that it would not be difficult. What I said is that it would be reasonable to expect us to be in and around the top 5/6 teams after 15 years in the premier league, with the plans we have and the sustainable approach to progression that has been put in place, starting with buying our stadium back and securing an effective freehold on the training ground land.

Every club wants to be better each season, but not every club has the potential that we do. Look at Bournemouth, or Burnley for example.

The infrastructure point has already been covered in my post, but I'll repeat it again if I have to... As I already stated, our infrastructure now is not great but improving as a result of legacy issues but In 10 years time providing we stay in the PL we will have a new main stand and significantly updated training and academy facilities, plus a whole host of other improvements no doubt that will make us far more attractive to players, increase our cashflow and enhance our ability to develop and retain top half talent.

Everton is indeed a good example of what I was saying. They've consistently been in and around the top 6 over the last few years.

17/18 – 8th
16/17 – 7th
15/16 – 11th
14/15 – 11th
13/14 – 5th
12/13 – 6th
11/12 – 7th
10/11 – 7th

I don't think this is an unreasonable expectation (note, not an easy one) to be aiming for in ten years time (2029) providing we continue sustainably and the board deliver on infrastructure investments.

With the progress made and the improvements that are coming I certainly don't expect us to be consistently finishing in the bottom half in 10 years time. Do you?

Who knows what Meyer could do if he was given a run of games

Blimey. Everton have been here over a century. Still can’t get into the top 5.

Villa. Failed. Spent too much trying.

Leeds. Failed. Spent too much trying.

Your expectations are huge, based on having a new stand and 35,000 ground. Won’t everyo else? Or much more?

7th is an achievement. Being never in danger of relegation also. Only being taken over by someone willing to make the whole ground new and pump loads of money in will get people expecting 5th at times.

In 10 years, I doubt there will be the Premier in its current format. The big 6 will have gone on to a Euro League, which they want or the TV money bubble will burst.
Even if it is the same, I don't expect us to still be there, good times at Palace don't generally last long.
Just enjoy the stay whilst it last and don't expect too much, then you wont be disappointed.

Jesus. Is that your general outlook on life?

For the record, I wouldn’t be disappointed. I was just pointing out that unless you’re a massive pessimist on a come down occasionally finishing 5-8th from 2029 onwards is a good thing to aim for, and, with the right plans in place, achievable.

TBH, I am worried but I feel we one of the few clubs that actually abide by the FFP.

It would seem that UEFA can't be bothered about them (probably if you can give Aleksander Čeferin a bung).

OK. Maybe 5th is a bit aggressive. 6th-9th as ‘in and around’. I still think that’s more than reasonable to aim for. I certainly don’t think their 10 year projections will be far off that as an aim.

Both Villa and Leeds spent too much and tried to do too much too quickly, Placed everything on red and then descended into chaos - unsustainable.

With our current approach of gradual improvement it’s possible. It’s certainly something to aim for.

I don’t buy the ‘Everton have been around 100 years’ point either. Everton have finished within the top six several times. Consistently does not mean ‘in perpituity’ either.

Its not my general outlook, but supporting Palace for many years makes you a realist where they are concerned. The best team we have had over the last 50 years finished 3rd, then within 2-3 years managed to implode and get relegated.

I'm going to be happy not being relegated --- for years.
