You did not question the training. You made a statement.

Your words were '' The players lack confidence in front of goal because their training isn't up to scratch ''.

Perhaps you should read your own post again - with brain engaged of course.

I have to assume that you are privy to their training methods and are quite rightly calling Hodgson and Lewington out for their lack of attention to detail when it comes to finishing the many chances our play creates.

Top white knighting.

Well done for repeating exactly what I said, what's your point fella?

Boils down to training methods, variety, frequency and duration.

In any trade the more you practice and the more engaged you are with the training the better you are at your job.

The players lack confidence in front of goal because their training isn't up to scratch.

You don't half spurt some twaddle and make bold statements instead of an opinion. What do you know about the training? Are you privy to the training sessions? Do you go down there and spy like a Leeds scout?

I agree there is nothing wrong with the training, we are playing some of the best football, since being in the Premier. We are not a push over for any team. The defence is sound apart from the occasional aberration from PVA, midfield covers a lot of ground, but could be a bit more creative. We are creating loads of chances up front, itís only a matter of time before it clicks, people can complain when we are creating chances. Benteke is a good striker with ability, as his over head kick against Fulham showed, just not getting the rub of the green.

Hitting the bar in a once in a lifetime overhead kick is great, but it wonít happen again. What happens over and over again is his poor control, taking the ball away from goal rather than keeping it under control and rolling towards goal. That is why he misses, as he did again. He ruins the angle he couldíve had.

He isnít a good player at this level. A lot of the important stuff he did for us in his first season was with his head. Sunderland away and Everton away are perfect examples. Fact is weíre carrying him. Heís a waste of a selection. Itís better to have him on the pitch than not have him but thatís not a great endorsement.

There was a clip on Facebook's Palace page from a season or two ago that showed him and Wilf knocking the ball to each other in training. The amount of times it bounced off his shin or he couldn't direct it back accurately was shocking. If he can't do it in a simple knockabout he'll never do it on match day.

I guess that if you want to score, you need a striker that scores.
But ours (Benteke) doesn't anymore, why I don't know, the point is that he's so low in confidence, clumsy, slow that he seems a different person than the one we once knew.
So, if you play with him, as a target man with shoulders to the goal, then you need your wingers to score the goals he does not.
But we have Zaha, whose record season tally is 9 and it only happened once. The other is Townsend, and his best record is 6.
So, if wingers score little then you need central mids to score running in, the problem is that Luka scores, but almost all penalties, maybe he can score 3 per season from open play, McArthur's record is 4, and before anyone mention it, Mayer is 6 (in Bundesliga).

Majority of the posts here already highlight the root causes. But on top of them, i also think we don`t bite when opponent has the ball. This significantly reduce the chance to have the ball when opponent is somehow unsettled / non-ready and leave us with attacking when opponent is ready to face with us.

IMHO, worst game we had this year at home was against Chelsea that we even didn`t attempt to bite / put pressure at anytime and we nearly had no chances until we start putting pressure in last 10 min.

This will definitely provide more agility on attackers as they will be facing a defense who is confused or who tries to settle.

In 12 home games we've had 211 shots and scored just 6 goals in open play!

I feel sorry for anyone playing centre forward in the current regime because so often the ball just doesnít come, or when it does the entire defence is back and settled.

The big difference between first and second half Saturday was that in the first the build up was so pedestrian. Endless triangles between Sakho, Schlupp and PVA (when he wasnít just giving the ball away), or Wilf getting the ball and immediately slowing down to allow second defender to close him down. Alternatively AWB to Andros; to AWM to MacArthur (when he wasnít giving the ball away).

All this time Benteke is trying to get into position for something. From the upper tier you can see him getting on the defenderís shoulder (same with Ayew in previous games) for a ball into the channel which never comes. Well twice it did earlier in the season when Luka seriously over hit one and MacArthur knocked the other one at least ten metres wide of where it was needed.

That along with our dreadful corners and the crosses which bounce first on the far 18 yard line and second bounce out of play sum up that the delivery to the forwards is shocking. I have great hopes for Batshuayi but I fear that he too wonít get the service.

Oh and it would probably help if someone, anyone could get into the box and give some support so the defence cannot all concentrate on the one guy who is in there. During the pedestrian buildup they have plenty of time to get in there

We've had 211 shots in 12 home games scoring 6 goals. Creating is not our problem, finishing is. If we're not putting the ball on bentekes head on the 6 yard box, maybe he shoukd use his feet a bit more, or is that asking too much for a £30m pound player. Oh and he had a great ball in the chanel saturday and completely f****d it up...

Very good post. Villa were a counter attacking team that were excellent away from home and his goals came when the opposition defence were in disarray. Maybe why he was better with Pardew. Play was so open and end to end. Everyone spread around rather than the congested nature of our games now.

So our £30m player will only score if our wingers cross early and put the ball right on his head. Or our oponents defenders are in 'disarray'. The guy has totally lost confidence and IMHO will never get it back while playing for palace. Needs to go to a new club in the summer.

Ugh. Good grief.

Let that sink in.

We need players in the final third who are not afraid to take a shot and can get some joy.

Schlupp actually shows some of these qualities ironically.

Sadly most of the team look like rabbits in the headlights when they have a goal chance.

You wont see a worse miss than what you say yesterday from one of our midfielders.

What no one seems to have mentioned is that we have scored more away goals than any other team outside the top 6, so it is not that we can't score in general, just that we can't score at home. This could be just a statistical freak which should correct itself soon.
