From my globe trotting experience, every race, nation, culture has its racists. It's part of that tribal, primal instinct - just as they have thieves, murderers, rapists and other vile things which are not going anywhere, sadly.

Racism will never disappear but that doesn't mean we accept it - a bloke in the stands shouts out abuse - telling me no one around him can do anything? Sure, some people are afraid to step in?

A system needs to be in place where it can be reported, safely, quickly and anon so that the law of the land can be applied

To make racist remarks illegal is perhaps correct. But it doesn't stop the way that racists think, and they still voice their views when amongst like minded people or even worse try to convert others.
I do not have the answers but if the people were allowed to say exactly what they were thinking, wouldnt it be better in some ways.
I liked the reaction from Raheem just to laugh at them.

There is such a system, in this country, where you might get one moron because hundreds of them was either 30 years ago or, Ďthatís so 30 years ago.í Montenegro are still where we were 30-40 years ago unfortunately. It wonít change asap.

I agree on your first paragraph. Humans arenít all nice and mobs and herd mentality does exist.

Sorry Rudi, but whereas I generally admire the quality of your posts (even if I don't always agree with them) you've lost me with this one. Probably me missing the point.

Yes I gathered that from the bold font. I just couldn't understand what you posted. Anyway, don't worry. It's me. I'll move on. No need to reply again, my old mucker.

hate speech. if a bloke wants to be racist i his own home, so be it.... educated people that hear will make their own mind up and slowly, but surely, racism will recede.
Morgan Freeman has some great quotes on racism.

If it kicks off ina big way at a stadium like in Monte negro, I would walk off. If say Rose had walked ( and Iím sure he would have been followed by some of his team mates) besides the fact it would have caused major international news, it would have ruined the night for all the spectators present.
Football at large would have to support them fully or be shown up for not really caring. The spectators would then immediately make sure the racist thugs packed it in or have their entertainment ruined. Hey presto, problem at games solved.
Make a stand players. Be strong. Walk next time it kicks off.
There are enough black players now to do this and kill it.
Imagine the publicity. Far greater than any useless fine FIFA has imposed.

Alternatively, the ref could take the players off informing the police he would only bring them back on once the thugs had been removed. And donít try to claim there arenít enough police. And if they are not removed the game would be abandoned. Imagine what a pain that would be for the straight fans and us TV fans.
Strong decisive action is what is called for. Something our leaders are not very good at.

Your 'strong decisive action' won't work. I appreciate the desire to reduce this stuff but do you seriously think that this hasn't been looked into many times?

Which thugs exactly? How can you be sure you are punishing the right people? People lie, people make mistakes.... How many times are you going to be stopping a game?

When a game is underway and we get some chanting that a player or players find offensive and the players are removed.....the idea that 'thugs' can be quickly identified is a bit fanciful. It's wishful thinking.

So you identify correctly or incorrectly Jimbob and his mate and throw them out.....You restart the game.....Then you get someone else or a group shouting something.....What are you going to do?....Stop the game again? Go through the same procedure?

What if one team is losing a game heavily and this becomes a method of abandoning the game? The reality is that as soon as it's made clear that there is a way that a result can be determined then you are going to get dishonest actors.

People have used their free time and paid a lot of money for tickets to see a football match. Abusive fans are far more effectively dealt with by camera footage after the game when there is time to effectively put together an accurate picture of who did what.....Action taken is then fair and appropriate.

I don't think the players should be the ones to make the decision to walk off the pitch.

You say be strong but they are already strong. You have to be thick skinned to say the least to play ninety minutes with fans hurling abuse at you.

Imagine a scenario where a team is 1ó0 down and fans abuse a player. He walks off, it would, as you say, be big news. Then after the game people start saying he only walked because he wasn't playing well or the team were losing or he's soft, not cut out for the pressure of the game. You start to put immense pressure on an already victimised player and leave him exposed to more scrutiny and people questioning his judgement in walking off. Now he has all that to deal with on top of the abuse. There will always be those that blame the players for the abuse they receive.

Also your asking the victim to stand up for themselves, again, as no one else will stick their neck out.

When there is racial abuse the manager should speak to the referee, the referee should be the one to stop the game. If the abuse continues and the referee does nothing, then the manager should pull all his players off the pitch so not to pressurise players into thinking its all on them to disappoint an entire stadium of fans, who probably wouldn't know fully what was going on until they got home and saw how it was reported..

Right now we have an England manager saying that he would support his players walking off. That for me is passing the buck. He should make that decision.
