Julian Assange has been arrested. Took a while.

Excellent news. The first thing that should happen is he goes to jail for evading arrest and I hope it's a long one. No one is above the law.

In the meantime I hope that the Swedish authorities request his extradition so he can face justice for crimes he may or may not have committed there.

Unlike you guys.....I just don't trust any of this.

Wikileaks....while there are some issues there.....has been a net positive so far.

We need freedom on the web and I suspect that this is authoritarianism via states looking for any means to drown it.

The Police literally dragged him out of that embassy.

Well the Queen is.

There is the law.....and then there is justice.

I don't trust any of this either.

I don't think the Swedish charges are being pursued anymore.

So what is the big beef?

The UK should have quietly put him on a plane out years ago.

not often we agree, this has been 'odd' from the beginning; with several agendas running.

have they said what we was arrested for, I thought the rape charges had been found to be spurious.

Assange should not get to decide which laws he will or will not respect. He was awaiting deportation to Sweden not America.

Further the idea that Sweden will roll over for the Americans is nonsense. The Swedes on multiple occasions have depth charged Russian sub sneaking into their waters.

If you believe Assange the Swedish justice system is not to be trusted which if I were Swedish I would find offensive. I have no idea if he is guilty of these sexual offences or even if the Swedes still want him that is their decision. But he fled from due process in the UK and we need to send a message to him and the speedboat killer that you cannot get away with this otherwise you just invite further trouble.

If the fourth estate is to mean anything......there must be freedom to criticise.

The press can be bought or owned by one side or the other.

I use to be against Wikileaks because.....and it's still a problem.....where are the checks and balances on them themselves?

However, they have no power other than the release of information. There releases have helped all political perspectives. But ultimately there must be a means for the truth to out.

Some of the lesser charges were dropped because Sweden has a time limit and Assange managed to run the clock down. Not quite the same as being cleared.

I don't know if the rape charge is still valid but this is all his own making he could have returned to Sweden and cleared it up in a matter of months if he is innocent.
