Various media outlet, you can guess who they are, are saying that the rescue/donation fund has topped 1bn euros.

Now while that in itself is an awesome response to a 'national' disaster, what id like to know is, how much of that will actually be used for the re-building of ND?

Was reported by BBC on Wednesday that the building was not insured.
So did the contractors (if they are proved at fault), also not have insurance ?

I applaud the donations,....but the monies being quoted for a building are obscene, when compared to the human atrocities that money could assist with

Last summer, my house was greatly damaged by a fire that originated next door. I tried to put it out with a crappy garden hose. Why did no billionaires contact me? Very disappointed in their behaviour. Will never invite a billionaire round for tea again.

No insurance company in the world would touch something that valuable.

Smoke detectors are required by most insurance companies. ... So, if your cathedral is hit by a fire or a hunch back, not having detectors, extinguishers or deadbolts can make a bad situation worse. Cathedrals insurance rates are almost certain to go up and it's even possible Thier policy would be cancelled

Yep....I can see insurance companies becoming increasingly reluctant to insure churches in northern Europe as the years go by.

24 hour armed security might be a better bet.

Course it ain't insured, how is this a surprise?

Some institutions are bigger than the cost of mitigation. Royal mail don't insure their vans for example.

Same with this. A billion pounds has been pledged in 48hrs or something stupid, before the Catholic church (one of the biggest landowners on the planet) has had to put its hand in its pocket.

It makes no sense to waste money on insurance premiums.
