five say 5 (new 9/4 fav - God I'm sad)

more optimists on here than you'd think seeing as so many posts have a strong element of whinge, quite understandably mind given the lack of activity thus far.

Because we're cheapskates and he would hit the ground running and he's a better finisher than the clowns we already have

Exactly

Going to go with 5. We all have a very good idea what is required & are used to the way we operate. For me though, £1.9 m per league place means the wages argument is a bit of a false one. Get the players identified & in early, don't start the season slowly & everyone would be happy (attacking at home would be nice as well).

It would be if our wages weren’t so astronomically high. Have you not seen our wage to revenue position in the league. Unsustainable, as we’re seeing now. We lost £45 mil over the last 2 years reported. Those are the facts, not us as fans making calculations in 1 minute before going about our own lives.

Don’t expect more than the essential signings and I pray they happen tbh.

Wasn’t that keen when Cahill was linked at the beginning of the window, but now I can see some logic.
Sakho looks like he’s still not ready and Tomkins seems to be some way off. Along with Dann they are all prone to pick up injuries so Cahill has to be an experienced option at least for this season.
Camarasa offers something different to our other midfielders so could prove to be a useful addition.
I think we still need a quick right back and a goal scorer.
If we manage all,of the above and retain a motivated Zaha I will breathe a little easier.

I understand our wage bill. Wanted rid of Benteke straight after the Bournemouth fiasco. With Sorloth & Wickham (looks like anyway) going we have room to sign some players. Promote a couple of the promising youngsters as well. Time will tell but do agree it is unsustainable in the long run without increased revenue.

The board have brought ‘unsustainable in the long run’ to unsustainable now I’m afraid. I hope for additions, but expect 2-3. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 1-2 though.

you do not even need scouting to sign a player like Cahill. He is London-based, he probably wants to stay here, West Ham and Arsenal do not need him, Fulham/Charlton/Millwall cannot afford him. 2-3 years after Brentford started being hailed as a great source of quality players we woke up as well to this fact and we put in an offer for Watkins.

If Camarasa is coming in as a long-term upgrade/replacement for McArthur, that is fine. If he is coming in to replace an outgoing Luka, that is bad. If he is coming in to keep Meyer out, that is bad. Same goes for Kouyate (most of the time). So our most exciting incoming player might actually damage our very light core of players that are either essential or can improve/increase in value. Meanwhile, we do not seem bothered by the fact that not only we do not have any back up fullbacks, but we are not interested in backing up our wingers at all.

Schlupp is very modest and is probably the most likely to replace either Zaha or Townsend if they get injured. Imagine a forward three of Schlupp, Ayew, and Benteke. And by imagine I mean wait for matchday six or something.

Good points.

I am not excited by Camarasa or Cahill at all, although I do see the necessity for the latter.

If we do not sign a new striker, winger and right back by Thursday we are in big trouble. I highly doubt that will happen.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Cahill will end up at Arsenal, not us.
