And if you don't put similar effort into e.g. Social Services it won't have much effect. Our structure has been hollowed out. Bluster and rhetoric won't fix that.

Announcing 20k should be seen as an admission of guilt - it's a mad percentage. And as it's such an enormous project I would love to see the planning that has been done prior to announcement. My guess is zip.

It's not just about numbers, but how they are deployed, in what areas of crime, in what forces, and making better use of existing police budgets and recognising politically correct ideology does not work on stopping crime.

It's so lovely to hear from people that know what they are doing Chris. So how many interviews is that? Don't forget existing staff turnover now. Also remember they all need a Degree or to be able to obtain one on the job. And to go on training before being deployed. And by the way they also need lockers.
