I have the same thoughts as you about how Villa will set up and us just playing slowly across the back from one player to another until then passing short to a midfield player who is now heavily marked. That midfield player will then have to pass it back to a defender who will pass it to another defender. Some time during this long period we will hoof it upfield and Villa’s defence will win it and then try and break us down. This will finally happen when we either make a mistake at the back or on rare attack by us we will lose the ball and they will get a winner on a breakaway. Just a normal boring home Palace match which we’ve become accustomed to at Selhurst :-(

When's the Beast back ? He may well negate a little the all too familiar home tactics you mention as he can at least try to bring the ball out from the back. Also Wilf and Andros should both be on the wings and get it to them as early as possible. At least we would be going in the right direction. Another midfield player willing to move forward quickly would help as well. Seems to me we lose any initiative at home early on as we can't seem to score early. Cannot remember the last time us scoring in the first 10-15 mins in a home game ?

Haven’t you noticed all the top teams constantly play it across the back 4 and the keeper,, route one football died years ago. Route one is used occasionally, but handing possession straight back to the opposition puts you under pressure again.

Our football has been far more incisive with Sakho and Tomkins playing. Not Roy's fault they've both been injured.

They also probe the opposition and ask questions of certain players, try some movement, pull players out of position or look for the ball in between the lines or between a triangle of players (full back, CB, def mid). What annoys me more is when the opposition are running to get back to goal or behind the ball, we let them do it. That isn’t part of modern football. Far from it. Because you’re likely to get fewer opportunities and space than before so you have to exploit what presents itself. We don’t do any of this. The patterns on the pitch are the same most weeks at Selhurst. They’re slightly different in first and second halves but they’re on repeat.

Although I don’t like team Zaha’s methods, when you regularly see all this you can see why Zaha wants to leave so urgently, and partly, (because he’s partly why too) why the bids weren’t that high.

Please let’s be a bit more clinical and instinctive. Show some urgency at the right moments.

I think people are becoming frustrated with his stubbornness and a lack of a tactical plan to rectify our dreadful home form. If he can do that then everything is fine.

If he can do that and maintain our away form we will be top 4 - which I suppose could be classed as better than fine

Sadly it's just the way we play and has little to do with fitness.

i also expect villa (probably grealish or mcginn) to score a wondergoal conpletely against the run of play.

we should try and concede possession to villa, i have never been a fan of playing a different way away from home than when at home.

however, roy is the best manager we have had since promotion so i suppose we have to trust him to get the needed points over 38 games.

Hodgson has set the team to play in a certain way which is certaianly not that pleasing on the eye.It is all about shape, distances, sealing the gaps etc etc.

The script was ripped to shreds on Saturday with the winning goal against Man Utd with PVA breaking clear in added time, running from deep and ending up in the penalty area.Hodgson must have been tearing his hair out !

Let's see SP and the board trying to line up for a piss in the AW toilets at half time before peddling the new stand. We're the Arthur over here and the facilities are a disgrace
